Scene Summary
This scene is a battle between Unit 00 and one of the Angels. This Angel is floating at the edge of space just out of reach of the Evangelion's weapons range. In order to counter this threat, Commander Ikari orders Rei Ayanami to take Unit 00 and use the Lance of Longinus to break through the AT field of the Angel and destroy it.

Research: The Lance of Longinus is a Christian holy artifact. When Christ died on the cross, the Romans needed to make sure that he had truly died, so they ordered one of their soldiers to perform a test. This Roman was a man named Longinus, he took his lance, and pierced Christ's side to make sure that he was dead upon the cross. This lance appears as a weapon and a tool for instigating the third impact in Neon Genesis Evangelion
