Rich text format (RTF) was adopted as an Industry standard to allow people to transfer files from one platform to another platform. (Windows to Macintosh)
By saving a document in RTF, you can send a document to another person and not have to worry about them opening the document..
One of the oldest word processing programs was Notepad, which saves the text and can not save the pictures.
The industry developed a standard which allows you to save pictures and most of the formating ( tabs, bold, underline, general fonts) of your document.
To save a document as RTF, start with the File Menu and choose Save As.
Chose Rich Text Format and rename the file.
Now you can e-mail the file by attaching it to an e-mail.
