The Discovery

It was a long, hot day in lucid a town somewhere in South Carolina. An eighteen year old girl, name Allison, walked down a dusty path near a wildlife preserve on her way home from school. Her clothing, while a bit flamboyant, was a matching pink tank top and pink shorts with, due to the heat and youthful spontaneity, no shoes or sandals on. Allison decided to go barefoot right after school and had taken her thong sandals off and put them in her backpack. Her friends had said that she was a wild one and that her mother would be angry when she found out what Allison had done. Allison just told them that her mother had nothing to say in the matter as she didn't walk home with her everyday, plus being barefoot was more comfortable and fun and asked that her friends give it a try sometime. Not a chance, they were so terrified of having their barefeet ending up as dirty as Allison's that they never took off their shoes or sandals.

"All well," Allison thought gleefully as she skipped down the path with her naked feet, "their loss! They'll never know the pleasure of being barefoot!!"

She continued down the path for a few more minutes and began to notice that there was no one walking on the path with her.

"That's strange...," Allison said quietly as she looked around the empty path. "Where is everyone? There are normally tons of people out here!"

This startling change in atmosphere was kind of freaky and the quieter was so eerie that it made her skin crawl. Allison continued further down the dusty path till she ran into a road block with a caution sign hanging from it.

"WARNING!!! Due to reasons unknown, the bridge is damaged ahead! Also, due to weather conditions the area around the river and the river itself has become dangerous to cross. Proceed at your own risk."

"What the heck! That's why there's no one out here?!" Allison cried out and stomped her foot into the dirt. "I can't believe this! Now what am I supposed to do? Walk all the way back down the path and call my mother for help? Heck no! I'm going to go right through this crap and straight home!"

After the outburst, Allison jumped over the road block and proceeded down the path, ignoring the sign's warning.

Allison walked down the path until she finally began to see the edge of the river. From afar, the river looked fine with none of the visible problems that the sign was talking about.
