Adapter

Any Hardware device or software routine that makes disparate hardware or software elements compatible.

Alternate Key

A type of key used in nonjuction with other keys to modify thier actions or to execute commands.

Batch

A group of files or commands that are processed as a unit.

Bay

A space in a computer cabinet where a hardware device such as a floppy disk, CD or tape drive can be or has been installed.

Cable

The transmission link between devices in a computer system.

Command Line

The position at which instructions are entered by the user or a program to direct computer processing.

Data

Information, as that processed by a computer.

Debug

To find and correct errors in a computer program or the operation of a piece of equipment.

Disk Drive

The device that contains a computer disk, the mechanism that spins the disk, and that reads from or writes to it.

Echo

A program command to display information lines on a monitor screen, as of a command that is being executed or data that is being transmitted.

File

A set of related information, such as for a spreadsheets, database, word processing document, or a program that is identified by a unique name and stored as a unit.

Input

Information entered into a computer or peripheral from teh keyboard, a disk or other memory decive, or from an ecternal source such as a telephone line.

Jumper

A type of switch used to set the configuration for a computer card or device.

Parameter

A limit, as of a particular program or computer operating system.

Program

A set of direction that instruct the computer in the performance of a task.

Syntax

The rules governing the precise way that statements must be constructed in a programming language.
