Abandoned in 1913, this building has been weathering away since that time. The light and property around it are privately owned.

This 69 foot active lighthouse contains a beam that can be seen 16 miles out at lake level.

Harbor Beach (Sand Beach)
Established: 1885
Status: Active
Location: Harbor Beach pierhead

(Above) Port Austin Reef Established: (1878) 1876
Status: Active
Location: Port Austin Reef at the tip of the thumb of Michigan
Type: Square
Access: Boat

This shot was taken from the pier in the city of Port Austin - a distance of 1 1/2 miles from the lighthouse using a 400 mm lens with a 2X teleconverter!
Made of brick on it's octangonal foundation the light is located a mile and a half from the nearest land. The lighthouse no longer contains it's fourth order Fresnel lens, but is illuminated by a plastic lamp.
