Simtel Net remains as the largest collection of DOS programs but has become a very slow graphics oriented website. Maybe this will help bypass some of those tedious graphics screens?

GARBO at U of Vaasa would be the one of the better European sites for DOS applications but has such a quick webpage for searches I am going to direct you to Garbo's search page.

Search over 700 links to DOS and W31 software using a PICO search aimed at these webpages:

http://members.cox.net/dos/softlib1.htm

The website is no longer being updated and there may be many broken links but you can find the "magic name" and use the FTP search engines listed below, if necessary.

PicoSearch

FTP Search! The next search engines only search on FTP Servers and will not help you by guessing at what you are looking for. You must know the Magic Name or a portion of it. Magic Names are what the author used when uploading his/her software. The filenames used by the person uploading to an FTP server are often too common to locate or too unusual to memorize.

Examples would be:

app.zip
("app" is too common)

lynx2.8.4dev.14-DOSb.zip
(too long to memorize with both upper and lowercase letters just to make it easier to make a mistake and use all lowercase)

But, if you do know the magic name, or a portion of it, one of these two FTP Server search engines may locate the archive for you. If neither can locate the file there is a high probability it is no longer available. Accessing ARCHIE or GOPHER servers would be your only other options. Good Luck on your search!

Remember upper and lowercase letters are significant when searching!
