Chapter 2: Welcome to the hell-mouth
Alex, Byram and her watcher stood across the street from the magic shop. Alex took a deep breath not wanting to wait for the others anymore and walked towards the door.
"Alex wait!" Byram shouted, "You shouldn't go in there alone."
"Byram, I'm vampire slayer. I can handle myself." "That may be so. But you're fourteen, and inexperienced."
"Oh grow up." Alex said opening the door "Hi can I help you?" Xander asked
"Yes, I was wondering if you could tell me if you had any books on vampires, demons, and anything else that goes bump in the night." Alex said politely "Um… If we have any, they're all over there."
"Thank you." Alex said smiling "Find anything?" Byram asked coming up behind her "No. I just started looking."
Suddenly Gloria came through the door with a pack of demons behind her.
"Where's my key!" Gloria shouted and everyone remanded quiet, "Fine. You won't tell me, I'll have to use force."
"Time to go to work." Byram said quietly and Alex shook her head
One demon went towards Xander but just before it reached him, Alex did back flips over to him and high jumped kicked the demon in the face knocking it into Gloria. Gloria snapped the demons neck, threw it off of her, ordered the other demons to leave then stood up and faced Alex.
"You little brat! You made me wreak my hair!"
"Oh I made the ditz wreak her hair, I'm so scared!" Alex said sarcastically
"You better b… hey you were being sarcastic weren't you!?" Gloria demanded and Alex nodded, "I will not stand for people being so rude."
"Come get it Britney wannabe." Alex challenged and Gloria walked over to her
The two of them got into a massive fight. Xander, Byram, Anya and Giles were all huddled in a corner. Gloria had Alex by the throat ready to finish her when Spike hit her in the head with a shovel making her drop Alex, Gloria turned around and Buffy picked her up and threw her out the door.
"I'll be back!" Gloria shouted, "And I want me key!"
"I really don't like her." Buffy said shaking her head and turned around to face Alex
Byram ran over to Alex, "You OK?"
Alex nodded, "I'll be fine. She's way too strong for me."
"It's OK, you did good for your first job. You'll get stronger."
"I hope so." Alex said looking up at Buffy, "Thank you."
Buffy helped her up, "It's OK. You were brave sticking up to her."
"It's my job. Even though I don't think it's the best job for me."
"I get it!" Anya shouted, "She's a slayer!"
"What!?" Everyone but Byram and Alex shouted
"She asked for books on vamps, demons, and anything that goes bump in the night and she managed to take on Gloria for a while. Remember you drowned and you were physically dead for a minute and the council must have called on her. She's the new slayer!" Anya shouted running over to Alex, "I'm Anya, a former demon!"
"You're a slayer?" Buffy asked Alex, "But she looks so young. And that guy looks too young to be her watcher."
"For one I'm fourteen and I know that's too young to be a vampire slayer and I had no choice in this. Secondly, he's not my watcher!" Alex said pointing out the door, "She is!"
"Hi." Jessica said walking into the store, "Hello Rupert."
"Nice to see you Jessica."
"She looks to young to be her watcher!" Buffy shouted, "Faith, Kendra and this girl gets young watchers and I get stuck with an old man!"
"Buffy you need a watcher who has experience. You're hard to handle. She's not. That's why she gets a young one."
"Excuse me, but Alex is out of control. That's why I have him!"
"He's cute." Dawn said, "How old are you?"
"DAWN!" Buffy shouted
"What?"
Later on that night
"She's the key Gloria's looking for, Isn't she?" Alex asked looking up from the book she was reading "Who?" Buffy asked
"Dawn. She's your sister right? And it says here that the key would be sent to the slayer in the form of a sister, and this is dated a little over three months ago, I've only been a slayer for a day." "Yea Dawn's the key. But it doesn't feel that way. It feels like she's been my sister for ever but I know she isn't."
"Does she know?"
"Yea. She over heard my mom, Giles and I talking about it."
"How did your mom take it."
"She was upset. But she's dealt."
"And Dawn?"
"Freaked out."
"I would too. How's your Dawn and your mom dealing with it now?"
Buff swallowed, "My mom died."
"I'm sorry, I didn't know."
"It's OK. Before she died, we acted like a normal family. It didn't change anything. Enough about me, what about you?"
"What's there to know? My mom left when I was young and left me with my over protective, verbally abusive father. My dad and I have never gotten along. Just before I found out I was the slayer I was going to sleep over at my boyfriends house and he said if I left don't even bother coming back. So I left, went to my boyfriends and found him fucking my bestfriend of eight years." Alex sighed, "I left and went to my special place where I'd go to calm down and that's where I ran into Byram. He told me I was the slayer, brought me to the council headcourters in Nashville, got my watcher and now I'm here."
"What's the story with Byram and you?" Buffy asked trying to change the subject knowing that talking about their lives was upsetting both of them "What do you mean?" Alex asked as Buffy raised an eyebrow it suddenly her, "God no! Me and Byram!?" "Don't like him?"
"Well…I sorta like him." Alex said smiling, "But he's my…"
"Don't say watcher. Jessica is. Don't think he likes you?"
"Right."
"Oh, Xander!" Buffy shouted "Yea?" Xander asked walking into the room and up to Buffy
"I need you to find out if Byram likes Alex." "Buffy!" Alex shouted blushing, "I don't like him, I said he was cute! There's a difference!"
"I know. But I'll see what I can dig up."
"Thanks Xander."
"Anytime Buff."
Other Room
"Hey Byram! Wanna take a break from all this research about the Celtic Myths and come with me to get doughnuts for everyone." Xander asked walking into the room
"Sure. I think Dawn can go without two people helping her with her project for a few." Byram said looking relieved standing up
"Hurry up! I need the help!" Dawn said whining "Just ask Alex! She's a pegan!" Byram replied
In the car
"Is this your first time working with a slayer?" Xander asked
"No. But she's different."
"How so?"
"The age. She's so young. Most slayers get called at 16-19 not 14."
"You really worry about her, don't you?"
"Yea. She's like the little sister I never had." Byram said smiling, "You know?"
"Yea. Kinda like Willow and I."
"Speaking of Willow. Are Tara and her… You know…"
"Yes. It's kinda scary I know. But I've exempted it."
"It takes time doesn't it?"
"Yea. How did you get involved with the watchers council?"
"Dad's a member."
"Oh. Have you always been an assistant?"
"No. I used to be a full watcher like Jessica and Giles but when I had a physical relationship with a slayer I have." Byram said, "Dad said if I did it again, he doesn't care if the person was my soulmate, he'd kill me."
"Who was the Slayer? It must have been recent. You're only 19."
"Yea it was. It was the one before Buffy I think. Her name was Faith."
"FAITH!" Xander shouted, "Brunette, trouble maker, in jail Faith?"
"Yea. You know her?"
"Yes. She came after Buffy, but before Alex. She was on the Mayor's side. The mayor was evil, very evil." Xander said parking the car, "She used the weird thing and switched body's with Buffy."
"Wow. She used to be so good. Well behaved."
"She must've gone bad when the watcher after you got killed by the oldest vampire ever."
"Is he dead?"
"Now he is. Buffy and Faith killed him." "I take it that it's better to have two slayers than one?"
"Yea."
Later that night
'Faith is no longer a slayer and is not dead. She was arrested for murder and multiple charges. She is currently in the prison in Los Angeles.'
"L.A.?" Alex asked herself getting out a map she had and looked at it, "It's not far from here. I might make it back by tomorrow night."
Alex grabbed her backpack and put a few weapons, garlic, holy water, crosses, and pepper spray in it. She also grabbed the map and some money out of her watchers wallent and snuck out of Buffy's house.
Next morning
"Guys Alex's gone!" Byram shouted running down the stairs
"What!?" Buffy asked
"She's gone. Her bag with all of her clothes are still here but her weapon bag is gone."
"Calm down, maybe she's doing some daytime patrolling. It's one of the best times to do it."
"I hope so." Byram said sitting down putting his head in his hands, "If anything happens to her it would tear me apart."
"It's OK. She'll be fine." Buffy said trying to calm him down, "She's tough for her age. She can handle herself. You can't protect her forever."
"Yes I can!" Byram said jumping up and grabbing his coat
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to look for her. She can't be alone incase Gloria attacks her. There's no way she can stand up to a goddess."
"OK, be careful."
That night in L.A.
Alex managed to knock out to gards without getting noticed and tried finding Faith's cell. When she got to it she saw a brunette sitting on a bed staring at the wall.
"Faith!" Alex whispered loud enough so that Faith could hear her
Faith turned around and got up, "What do you want?" "Are you a former slayer?"
"Yea, what's it to you?"
"My name's Alex, the new slayer. I'm here to get you out."
"Are you crazy! You're gonna get thrown in here." "No I wont! Now come on. I'll explain everything on the way back to SunnyDale." "SunnyDale!?" Faith said looking confused, "I'm not sure. What if the cops recognize me?" "Ever heard of die? You'd look good with a dark red."
"You mean like you?"
"Yea. Now come on!"
The two of them snuck out and ran all the way back to SunnyDale by morning. Faith checked into a hotel using a fake name and Faith and Alex died Faith's hair. When they where done she had the same color hair as Alex. (Think of the color Lita from WWF has) When it was around noon the next day, Alex went back to Buffy's house and told Faith she'd see her later.
Buffy's House
Byram was still sitting on the stairs waiting until Alex got back. Hoping she would. Buffy was out with the others while Byram and Dawn stayed at the house. Byram started fall asleep when there was a key noise waking him up. He stood up and the door opened revealing Buffy.
"No luck?" Byram asked and Buffy shook her head "Sorry." Buffy said hearing the back door close
Buffy and Byram ran into the kitchen to find Alex put her bag down. Byram's face went from relieved to pissed off in seconds.
"Where in god's green in earth have you been!?" Byram shouted
"Looking for help!" Alex shouted back, "It's gonna take more than Buffy and I to kill Gloria."
"Who did you go to for help?" Buffy asked
"Another slayer." Alex said walking out of the room "FAITH!?" Buffy and Byram shouted at the same time "Take it you both know her?" Alex said from her temporary bedroom
"Are you crazy!?" Byram shouted
"She's insane!" Buffy shouted
Alex walked down the stairs in leather pants and a red tank top, "Yea but we need her help."
"Where do you think you're going!?" Byram demanded to know
"Why would you care? You're just my watcher." Alex said walking into the kitchen
"I'm more than that Alex. I'm your friend."
"I don't need friends. Slayers are suppose to work alone."
"Oh give me a break Alex! If it wasn't for my friends, I'd be dead right now."
Suddenly Alex grabbed her head and fell to the floor with visions flowing through her head. Byram and Buffy ran over to her to see if she was all right.
"What's wrong with her?" Buffy asked
"She's having a vision. She was born with it. She only has it when something really bad is about to happen."
"Alex! What did you see?"
"A vampire. He was on a killing spree. He's coming her to SunnyDale." "Did you get his name?" Buffy asked "He's the most vampire of all time…" Alex started "Angelous." Buffy and Byram finished
