Since it's 1919 establishment, the American Legion Auxiliary has been recognized as the largest and most influential women's organization of its kind in the world today. The American Legion Auxiliary was formed to aid the American Legion in carrying out the great programs of peacetime service to America to which the American Legion is dedicated.

Situated in Louisiana's "Mighty Third District," Atchafalaya Unit 96 proudly consists of 98 members with more joining each day. Unit 96 paricipates in programs that are dedicated to disabled veterans, children & youth, community service, disaster relief, Americanism, Poppies, Junior girls, Girls State, educational scholarships, and Flag awareness.
