Enhancing Speed

      Enhancing your SIM horses early speed is essential and necessary for consistant and continued winning. You may have heard;

      "Time is only important when your serving time."

Fortunately, I ahve never had the expierence of serving time so I can't comment on whether or not serving time at a faster pace increases or decreases the final time of a jail sentence (or if it feels that way.). But, in horse racing the pace of the race greatly, if not totally, the final time of the race. In theory, horseracing is simple; My horse can beat your horse. It grew from that idea alone, then other horses were added, but the same basic principles are at work; One horse may go out for the lead and sets a pace that hopefully won't be self defeating where another horse either overcomes the pace being set down or doesn't.

What Could Be Easier?

      If it were that easy this 200 year old sport as we know it today would not be around nor would people spend hours upon hours of their time trying to put a SIMulated Horseracing game together to reflect such an easy event ....... LOL!!
      I'm sure there are a few other reasons too ..........

      Recently I was asked by an O/T if a Jockey Instruction of (00) From The Back, good to use for their 2yo. In this case the horse had two races already and was still a maiden and in neither of the first two racees had the horse shown any speed at all. I offered that it would not be a good idea because in the upcoming race there would be a strong chance that the horse might be content to trail the field for the entire race. "You'll have plenty of opprotunities to watch run bad ..." and that they should do something that would help the horses' early speed.

      Horses in the SIM with a deep closing running style are more likely to win at the maiden level and are sometimes able to carry this type of running style for a few races. Eventually they will run against horses that are faster on the front end or that will have greater tactical speed that will make winning more difficult for this deep closing type.
     In general, horses that have success with this deep closing style usually have to have a fast or lively pace for their fast closing style to be effective. It is next to impossible for them to run their race with a par or slower pace, although it may not look like it but speed is very important for this kind of horse. In real life a very common work out for this horse would be a fast and short three furlong drill, the reasoning behind this is that the horse already has plenty of stamina for the lenght of the race. A fast and short work a few days before the race will sharpen the stretch speed for this horse.

      In most all cases somewhere along the line, enhancing your horses speed is essential for winning and winning with any consistancy. You may have a future champion SIM horse with this preferred style but unless you find a way to give him the speed he needs his deep closing style will be rendered ineffective. By changing the Jockey Instruction to; (1) Go For The Lead, and shortening ther races for a couple times this will help his deep closing style and help them reach their full potential.
      With SIM horses, after they have shown signs of early speed they are much easier to deal with in distributing that speed into their preferred running style.
