Acquainted With The Night

Part Three

Duo watched the blood flow over his wrist, time seemed to slow down.

Hearing the door swing open he turned to see a very white Wufei gaping at him.

Summoning up a smile from the bottom of his gut he eyed the Chinese pilot.  “Hey Wu-man.”

Wufei seemed like a statue when he suddenly shot forward, pulling his white shirt over his head and wrapping it around Duo’s wrist.  His ebony eyes bored into Duo’s violet.  The voice sounded thick with emotion.  “Duo… what are you… why…?”

Something twisted in his gut as Wufei gazed at him questioningly and he lost hold of his mask, sighing he looked out the window above the dresser.  “I’m so tired Wufei.  I’m tired of being alone with nothing but death to keep me company.”

Wufei’s grip on duo’s wrist tightened slightly pulling his attention back to the Dragon.  He’d never seen quite so much showing on the normally stoic features.  “You’re not alone Duo.  You’ll never be alone again.”

Duo felt his heart thud painfully against his chest and his mouth went dry.  “Do you realize what you’re saying Wufei?  You understand what this’ll mean?  What others will think?  We’re two GUYS, Wufei.  That doesn’t go over too well in most circles.”

He watched as Wufei’s noble features changed into something harder, features changed into something harder, more determined or stubborn.  “Damn what other’s think Duo.  We fight in the war… and it seems to me that we should take love where we find it and I’ll be damned if I’ll loose you before I even have a chance to love you.”

……………………….

Wufei knew that as soon as he’d said those words there was no turning back.  But he’d cared for… no loved… Duo for sometime but he’d never dreamed there would be a chance for them.  But walking in and seeing the lifelessness in his eyes and the blood pouring from his wrist had made him realize that, especially for people like them, there may not be a tomorrow and if you missed an opportunity today you could live to regret it.

Slowly, making sure to keep pressure on Duo’s wrist he raised the braided boy’s hand to his lips, eyes never leaving Duo’s.  “Just promise me you’ll never do this again.”

Duo’s lips curved into a soft smile that brightened his whole face and took Wufei’s breath away.  “You got it Wufei.”  Then in the very next beat Duo blushed a deep red and stumbled over his next words in uncertainty.  “Does this, uh, mean that we’re, um, we’re together now or…”

Raising his finger to Duo’s lips, while he kept pressure on the wrist he leaned forward and gently replaced the finger with his lips in a simple kiss.  “What do you want?”

Duo’s eyes twinkled dangerously.  “I want you.”

Wufei laughed, “Well, you can’t have me yet.  Serves you right for doing this.  Now put pressure on your wrist so that I can get the first aid kit.”

…………………………………

Quatre stared after Wufei.  “He’s right you know.  Duo deserves better than this.”

He watched as Heero stood up and moved over the staircase.  “He’s still a baka.  That’ll never change, no matter if he’s Death’s partner, a witch or a Gundam pilot.”

Quatre smiled softly at Yuy.  “Yes, that’s true.  He’s still just Duo.  No more, no less.”

He stood to follow Wufei upstairs but stopped as a hand gripped his shoulder.  Lifting his eyes he met Trowa’s.  I think it’s best to wait.”

Blinking Quatre looked back at the stairs, puzzeled.  “Why?”

Trowa smiled softly.  “Duo needs time, as does Wufei.  Our mistakes can be rectified later.”

Sudden dawning made Quatre blush slight.  “Of course.”
