Texas

This Texas train page covers trains not covered on the Fort Worth, Houston, or Amarillo pages.

The electric trains at Tatum, Texas south of Marshall, TX is a hit and miss opportunity. I just happen to hit it on July 28, 1996 when I visited there, but other trips were misses. This is an empty train backing back to the mine which is about 7 miles south of the power plant at Martin Lake. When things are working as they should a fully loaded coal train should return about 30 minutes later. There are several mines in the area and this is one of the few areas where you have some access without getting on the property.

A southbound loaded BNSF coal train makes a crew change in Wichita Falls, TX. Sometimes its almost an endless parade of coal trains passing through all the dusty towns along the way from Amarillo to Fort Worth.

Passing the old SP depot in Orange, TX on January 25, 1998, is this westbound BNSF mixed freight headed for Beaumont and then to Houston.

Just east (actually north) of the downtown Orange, TX is Echo siding. Two NS (UP) freights wait for crews, leaving the mainline open. This shot was taken on January 25, 1998 on the west end of Echo. Echo is a very good meet point with two long sidings and only one crossing on the east end.
