Birmingham, AL is a very busy railroad town as evident in this shot taken on April 9, 1995. I'm on an overpass in the heart of downtown as 5 trains can be seen in this picture. Amtrak has just entered the station to top of the scene while two southbounds - a CSX and a NS slowly creep ahead waiting for Amtrak to depart. Two tracks over to the left of the NS train with UP power is another NS train that has stopped. Just barely in sight at the top of the picture is yet another NS train northbound with a mix of SP and GT power. (Click on image for full size view) |

The former Southern Railway station in Tuscaloosa, AL still stands and is used by the NS and Amtrak. The NS local with a GP38-2 passes the beautiful station on a cold and cloudy December 17, 1994 day. (Click on image for full size view) |

Here's another Mobile, Alabama shot during the last days of the L&N and SCL as seen in this shot with a freshly painted Family Lines engine in the lead on this eastbound train crossing over an old trestle just north of the now CSX yard in Mobile. (Click on image for full size view) |

Just about the best place in Birmingham, Alabama is at 32nd Street. The NS southbound train is overtaking the BN local that has just collected the cars at the BN/NS interchange track. Both trains are crossing over the CSX track that parallels 32nd Street. Image was taken on March 11, 1995. (Click on image for full size view) |
