This interview was done with Jay Ceravalo, guitarist for Exhorder, on November 16,2000
For those of you unfamiliar with Exhorder, they were a killer local New Orleans band
with a heavy sound, that broke up about 7 years ago. And much to the delight (& anticipation)
of their New Orleans fans, they're in the process of making a comeback! (YEA!!)
GP: I heard that 'Floodgate' was over with, but is 'Fall From Grace' over too?
JAY: Yes, definately over.
GP: Does Exhorder still have all the original members?
JAY: No, Andy's gone, but Frankie, who appeared on the 2nd album, 'The Law", is with us now.
Current Line-Up Is:
GP: So what are you guys up to right now?
JAY: We're currently writing new music for a 3rd album and rehearsing, getting ready to play some shows.
GP: Did Exhorder ever record/release a 3rd album?
JAY: NO
GP: What was going on around the time the band split up... weren't y'all working on a new album?
JAY: We were writing stuff, and rehearsing, but we weren't in the studios recording or anything...
Then it all just sort of fell apart.
GP: When do y'all plan to be recording again?
JAY: I don't know. A few of us want to start recording now, and a few of us want to play a few shows
and then start recording. I'm not sure what we'll do first.
GP: When you do record a new album, are you going to try to find a label, or try to put it out yourselves?
JAY: That's something that's up in the air. If we don't decide to sign with a label, and play a few shows, it'll give us the money to do it ourselves.
But if a company approaches us and offers us a million dollars, well.... Either way, we'll probably play a few shows first since everyone's ready to see us again.
GP: Can you tell me what your new material/sound will be like?
JAY: The new songs have a real down-home, New Orleans sound to them. In fact,we incorporated a Neville-like into one of our songs. It kind of ranges from a real heavy, New Orleans blues sound to original Exhorder.
GP: What would you like to see happen with the band over the next couple of years?
JAY: I'd like to record a few more records and do alot of touring... I love the road. We're also planning on selling the next album on the internet.
GP: Finally, is there anything you'd like to say to the fans waiting Exhorder's return... or any final comments?
JAY: Yes, Eventually we'll make our own website, and will be selling our merchandise there. In the meantime, if you'd like Exhorder merchandise, please contact this website, or write to us directly. (Our e-mail & snail mail addy is on the 'addresses page' of this site) If any of you come across ANYONE selling ANYTHING with Exhorder's name on it, either on auction or otherwise, let us know about it.
Please DO NOT buy our merchandise from anyone but us, because we're getting ripped off. If anyone has anyone has any questions or comments for the band, you can contact us directly through this website.
Thanks to Jay for sharing a bit of his time with us, and for letting us all know what's going on with the band. Any further developments will be posted on the News Page of this site.
