Blair's Review
*Here's my review on Alegria. It's an overall take on the two shows I've seen.
I was lucky enough to be able to see Alegria twice, during its stay at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, Mississippi. Coincidentally, it was the first Cirque du Soleil production I've heard of that is still running. I heard of Cirque du Soleil in '92 and heard of Alegria back in '96, and that was the one show I really wanted to see, grant it I'd be able to see one. When the time came everything around me seemed surreal and it was the most incredible thing I've ever seen before in my entire life. The opening number, which began with Mirko, immediately grabbed my full attention. The entire show in itself was incredible. While watching, I thought about how many years of practice and long hours of dedication these performers put into it. The act that drew me into the show the most was the synchro trapeze. It was very mesmorizing and I loved every bit of it. Watching the show and thinking back to the time I had seen a brief news story on Alegria back in '96, I kept telling myself,"Wow. I can't believe I'm actually sitting here seeing this show." Alegria was the first currently running production I've ever heard of and the main one I wanted to see, and being in the audience watching it and probably not even twelve feet from the stage both times, it was beyond incredible and an experience I'll never forget.
