Felix and Oscar's Ferrety Homepage!

Last Updated 06-29-05
Felix and Oscar have both passed away by now. As a child they brought me great joy and I will never forget the fun times we had together. I am going to leave this page up because many of the tips I offer on here are good advice for ferret owners. Hi there, my name is Robert and I own two ferrets, Felix, a male ecu sable, and Oscar, a female light sable. Thanks for visting, and check back soon. ~ Felix, Oscar, And Robert.
And now for the ferret tips HEALTH/GOOMING/FEEDING TIPS*
1. My ferrets' favorite treat is Linatone.

2. I reccomend putting Baby Powder on your ferret after its bath. This will make it smell better longer.

3. Hold your ferret right behind the scruff of the neck while clipping its nails. It will go into a sort of trance.

4. If your ferret has a flea problem, try rubbing baby oil on it. Your ferret may not like the smell, or may lick it off during shedding season. This should be harmless, but read the warning labels first anyway.

FERRET TOYS 1. First, a good house for your ferrets is an empty shoebox. Tape the top to the bottom with a very strong tape. Cut a small square hole near the bottom so the ferrets can get in. Stuff some blankets in for them to keep warm, and they'll love it. If they start to chew the box too much, just make another one. For me they usually lasted a month or two.

2. A cool rattly toy. Take one of those eggs or capsules you get for 50 cents in the grocery store, and put a small bell or rock in it. It is hard for them to open, and they love it.

3. Another cool toy. Take an old sock that you dont need anymore, and get one of those small bells. You should be able to find them at any crafts store. Put the bell in the middle and tie a knot on each end. They will like to toss it around and here it jingle, and just chew on it. This is okay if they dont eat pieces of it.

4. A can makes an awesome noisy toy for ferrets. Smash an aluminum can, and check that there are no sharp edges. If there are, throw it away and try it again with a different can.If there aren't, Ferrets love to rattle it around on a hard floor, and pick it up and toss it to hear it clang.

5. A plastic gallon milk jug is great fun for ferrets. Get an empty milk jug, wash it out, let it dry, and cut 3-4 holes in it, large enough for ferrets to go in and out of. Make sure the edges arent sharp. If the hol you cut has a sharp edge, dry filing it down to a smooth edge. Give this toy to your ferrets and they will play with it for hours.

6. I have not tested this, it was sent to me by Lisa Oestereich (lisa@leedg.com) via e-mail: Buy a rubbermaid (or the like) container with lid (approx. 3' x 2'). cut an 8" hole in top of lid, fill box with 50 lbs of long cooking rice (Costco has this for about $7.00. My ferrets LOVE to dig endlessly in the rice!

Thanks for the idea, Lisa.
Again, I encourage anybody with any ideas to send them to me at Ferretguy707@hotmail.com FERRET GAMES 1. Ferrets like to play tag and other chasing games. So games such as hide-and-seek tag are good games.

2. It is a ferret's nature to burrow, but they can not always do this. Instead, you can satisfy that urge by giving them some kind of tube to run through. It can be made from a plastic pvc tube, or in some pet stores, clear tubes are sold that expand and the ferrets can run through it.

3. Ferrets love to slide, and you can use a piece of plastic, or cardboard, as a slide. Put your ferret at the top and nudge it gently in the direction of the slide. He will love going down and will want to slide some more, so make a ramp or some stairs from books, and let him go by himself.

4. Ferrets like to play tug-of-war. Get an old rag or cloth, and let your ferret tug on one end while you tug on the other. Don't pull too hard though, because you might hurt your ferret. Remember to play gently with them and you will both have fun.

5. Ferrets like to play with balls, especially if he has to jump after it. You can put a ball or bell on the end of a peice of string, and attach it to a stick or pole, and dangle it above his head. He will have tons of fun jumping after the ball.

6. Ferrets also like anything that rattles. Break a pair of plastic beads, or just some small pebbles will do, and put a few in a small canister and close it. Give it to your ferret and he will love to roll it around and hear it rattle.

7. Ferrets also like feathers. Put a couple of feathers on a string or hold a feather by your ferret's face, and he will love to bite at it and jump at it.

*These statements are made from my own research and the research of others who have sent in ideas. If you see some flaw in these designs that may allow a ferret to get hurt, please contact me about that immediately. I only wish the best for you and your pets. There may be better treats, toys, etc. that I have not purchased before that are better then the ones I mentioned.
