Heidelberg- What a beautiful name! As the chief University city of Germany, Heidelberg offers an excellent, and also romantic, education environment for students all over the world. What? You are not one of the students? Well, Heidelberg does not only welcomes students! Tourists can also enjoy the town! Let's check it out!
Tourists often start their journey from Frankfurt, and take a comfortable ICE train to their destination Heidelberg. The railway station is not located in the old town, or the Altstadt, so you need to take tram no. 1 to the city centre, Bismarkplatz.
After jumping down the tram, you can either take a bus like no.11, 35 and head off for Alte Brˆ¢cke, and walk into the old town.
If you like to walk and feel the town's romance, I suggest you to walk along the Hauptstraße, which starts at Bismarkplatz. You can see loads of buildings along Germany's longest pedestrian-only street like the new and old University, the world famous student prison ( it is not exactly located on the street, you need to walk into Augustgasse for it. It is a bit hard to find though), Church of the Holy spirit, Medersche Haus, Kornmarkt and the Rathaus. Below is one of the example, the Haus Zum Ritter. It is opposite to the Church of the Holy Spirit, or the Heiliggistkirche. 'The Ritter Hotel was erected in 1592. The Renaissance structure of the building's facade is a special point of interest.' (Quoted from Heidelberg city guide)

Actually the buildings in Heidelberg old town are not as significant as the one and only Schloß on the Königstuhl. By walking to the Kornmarkt, you will be able to find the Bergbahnhof, or the Peak Tramway Station. You can take the tram up to the famous Schloß, or you can stay in the tram compartment, make a change at the station in the middle which name I forgot, but it starts with an "m". Then you can reach the hilltop. By climbing higher, you can see the TV tower. And what's the best thing is, you can go up inside and take a glimpse at Heidelberg's breath-taking over view. But mind you, the lift which takes you to go up is a bit err... smelly...

An over view of Heidelberg from the TV tower
Another way of enjoying Heidelberg is walking along the Philosopher Path. By taking bus number 34,35 to Alte Brˆ¢cke Nord, you can see the path up on the hill. Don't be afraid to walk this steep path, because what you will see is the most beautiful view in the world-- The River Neckar, Heidelberg Old Town, the old bridge and the Schloß. Now don't go before sunset, because the is the most romantic thing in the world to see the sun setting on the path with your beloved one!
