Chapter Two

Chapter 2

Kaylee sighed, and as she was about to put the year book away, a picture fell out. It was of her and Taylor before the dance. Her mom had taken it. The corners were freyed, and it was yellowing at the edges, but it was still clear enough to make out. She smiled. She was so happy then. No one even saw what would come next.

Kaylee bounced up and down impatiently. It was already 6:30. The dance started at 7:30, and she hadn’t even done her hair yet. Getting frusterated, she pulled the plug that was attatched to the curling iron out of the wall, and dashed downstairs.

“Mom,” Kaylee whined, “I need your help!”

Mrs. Michaels turned around from the kitchen dishes, and smiled lovingly at her daughter. “Kaylee, you look gorgous!”

Kaylee blushed, but smiled. She had chosen a backless red saton dress that tied around her neck, and just barely brushed the floor.“Thanks! But I need your help!” she repeated.

“What with dear?”

“Well... your a hair stylist!” Kaylee looked up at her hair. “What more can I say? Help!”

“OK, sit down, I’ll see what I can do.” She dissappeared through the kitchen doors, and came back a few minutes later with a curling iron, bobby pins, and various hair accessories.

She brushed out Kaylee’s long blonde hair, curled it, and then piled it on the top of her head. She put small red rose hair accessories in various parts of her hairstyle, and then turned the chair around. “Voila!”

Kaylee glanced in the mirror. “Wow! Thanks mom, this is great,” she said thankfully, giving her a hug.

“No problem. So; are you and Taylor going together?”

“Yes! Oh mom, he is so great!

” “Yes, he is a very sweet boy. You have good taste.”

Kaylee grinned just as the doorbell rang. “Speak of the devil,” she said, and skipped giddily towards the door. She flug it open to reveal Taylor, who was dressed in a pair of GAP Khaki’s, and a navy blue Polo shirt; He smelled of cologne.

“Hey,” she whispered. “You look great.”

Taylor kissed her cheek softly. “You too. It was worth the wait.”

“Smile you two!” Mrs. Michaels said, with a camera in hand. Taylor put his arm around Kaylee and they both smiled as the flash went off and the picture was taken.

“Are you ready to go?” Taylor asked, taking her tiny hand in his.

“Absoulutely. Bye mom,” she said, heading out the door.

“Bye you two! Have fun, but don’t do anything stupid!” She called after them. Kaylee laughed quietly, shaking her head.

“So, were gonna have fun tonight,” Taylor said as they walked slowly together down the sidewalk. The school was close, so it was easily in walking distance.

“You bet. It’ll be kind of like... a first date, right?” Kaylee smiled at the prospect. Althought they had been going together for three weeks, they had both been too busy with school work and studying to go out and do anything. The idea of their first date being in the school as well, made her smile a little.

“Hey, thats right,” Taylor said smiling down at her. They reached the school in no time, and stood with a group of their friends. The guys talked about music and cars, while the girls payed eachother compliments.

The doors open and soon everyone was inside, dancing and having a great time. The song “Slide” by the Goo Goo Dolls began to play. Kaylee’s eye’s sparkled. “I love this song!” she exclaimed.

Taylor came up from behind her, and wrapped his arms around her waist. Kaylee turned to face him, and took his hands in hers and they danced around jokingly, having fun.

As the night began to fade away, they danced and had a good time. Before they knew it, the last song was playing.

“OK Moorehouse High, this is the last dance, so grab the one you love most, and make this something special!” The DJ said through the music, as Breathe by Faith Hill came softly through the speakers.

Suddenly Kaylee heard Taylor’s voice behind her in her ear. “Hey beautiful, want to dance?”

Kaylee laughed and nodded her head, wrapping her arms around his neck, breathing in his cologne. “I had so much fun with you tonight Taylor. I don’t want this to end.”

“Me either,” he whispered, tightening his grip around her waist, listening to the words of the song.

I can feel the Magic floating in the air,
Being with you gets me that way.
I watch the sunlight dance across your face,
and I’ve never been this swept away.

All my thoughts just seem to settle on the breeze,
when I’m lying wrapped up in your arms.
The whole world just fades away,
the only thing I feel, is the beating of your heart.

Cause I can feel you breathe,
it’s washing over me, and suddenly I’m melting into you,
there’s nothing left to proove, baby all we need,
is just to be.

Caught up in the touch, the slow and steady rush,
Baby isn’t that the way that love’s supposed to be.
I can feel you breathe.
Just Breathe.

In a way I know my heart is waking up,
As all the walls come tumbling down.
Closer than I’ve ever felt before,
and I know, and you know,
there’s no need for words right now.

Cause I can feel you breathe,
it’s washing over me, and suddenly I’m melting into you,
there’s nothing left to proove, baby all we need, is just to be.

Caught up in the touch, the slow and steady rush,
Baby isn’t that the way that love’s supposed to be.
I can feel you breathe.
Just Breathe.

Kaylee bit her lip. Her and Taylor hadn’t kissed yet, and this just seemed like the perfect moment, but what if she did something wrong? She had kissed guys before, but she wanted this to be special. Taylor just seemed so different from all those other guys. Suddenly Taylor’s head lifted from beside hers so he was facing her. They leaned in, and he kissed her softly, yet slowly. The pulled away, amazed by how such a small kiss could effect them both so much. Kaylee reached up and kissed him again, their kisses slow, and soft, and full of love, as the song in the backround played to the end.

Caught up in the touch, the slow and steady rush,
Baby isn’t that the way that love’s supposed to be.
I can feel you breathe.
Just Breathe...

I can feel the magic floating in the air,
Being with you gets me... that way.

Taylor and Kaylee slowly pulled apart, their hearts beating quickly. “Wow,” Kaylee said, resting her forehead against his.

“Wow is right. I had the best time, Kaylee.”

“Me too. Maybe we can go out again sometime. You know, if school doesn’t get in our way, right?” She said with a wink.

Taylor kissed her cheek, and took her hand. “Right. I’d love to.”
