She sat on a bench, bookbag on her lap, book in her hand, not that she was paying much
attention to what she was reading, anyway. She was too busy staring at the wonderful sight that
stood on the soccer field in front of her. That golden hair that shimmered like stained glass,
those blue eyes, that were like ice. Taylor Hanson. What a beautiful name. Some called her
obsessed with him, ever since she had layed eyes on him, which was in the fourth grade when he
moved a block away from her.
"Zo, snap back to reality. You'll never get next to the likes of him. Besides, he's already got a
girlfriend, who by the way, could be a model."
Zoey Fielding sighed. "Mel, your totally killing the mood here. I can dream, can't I?"
"Yes, but if your going to dream, dream about something that might actully happen."
"Melanie Parker, why are you doing this to me?"
Melanie slid onto the bench, putting Zoey's stuff on the ground. "Because it's fun to see you
look at him like your the puppy in the petshop that no one wants to buy."
"Sometimes I wonder why you torture me like you do." She sighed wistfully. "Look at him...
he's so good at soccer. No wonder he's the captain of the team."
"Whoh, Zoey, your way in deep here. You really, seriously like this guy, don't you?"
Zoey smiled dreamily, and nodded her head.
"I don't see why you do. So he's smart, funny, popular and totally fine."
"He sure is... but I can't even talk to him. I can't talk to any guy, for that matter."
"Well, I'll give you a chance. Watch." Melanie picked up Zoey's book off of the ground, dusted
it off, and threw it just inches from Taylor's feet. He kicked the soccer ball back to his friend,
and picked it up, reading the title.
"Great, Mel, just great. Now you've made me look like a complete idio --- oh no! He's coming
over, Mel! What do I say?"
"For starters, 'hello' might be nice."
"Melanie," Zoey whined.
"Oh Zoey, shut up!" Melanie cried. "Quit being such a baby."
Just then, Taylor strolled up to them. "I think this belongs to you," he said, handing the book to
Zoey.
"Oh, um, thanks, it's uh, mine." Zoey stumbled.
"Great book. You've got good taste...Zoey, right?"
Zoey nodded.
Taylor smiled aqwardly. "Well...see you around, Zoey." he nodded towards Melanie, and jogged
back to the field.
Zoey sighed happily, and sank down on the bench. "Mel!" she squealed. "Did you hear that? He
knows my name. I'm in Heaven."
