Briten yawned as she sat up, though she was still half asleep. She looked around at her
surroundings, and realized that she had fallen asleep under an oak tree. Smiling to herself, she
realized how tiring the doctors appointment had made her.
Though Briten had plenty of time to let the words that terrified her sink in, she still refused to
believe it. Cancer cells had travelled through the women in Briten's family for years, and her
biggest fear was getting Cancer herself. And now she had to face reality and accept the fact that
she, Briten Wilcox, had Lukemia.
"No!" Briten cried, as tears welled up in her eyes. She picked up a stone and threw it as hard as
she could in the near by brook, letting out her anger. "It's not fair! I'm only sixteen!" She yelled
to herself, as she ran back through the trees, branches flinging in her face as she fled. She
brushed aside the stinging in her legs from the scrapes she got from laying on the prickly forest
ground, as she made her way back home.
She ran through the front door, and into the caring arms of her father, who was trying his best
not to cry infront of his emotional daughter. "Daddy," Briten cried into her father's chest.
"Daddy, why?"
Though she was sixteen, Briten couldn't help feeling scared. She needed comfort, and she knew
her dad would be there for her.
Her father hugged her, and ran his hand down her silky blonde hair. "I'm sorry Briten, but your
strong. You can pull through this. I know you can."
