Up A Creek Without A Paddle

Brooklyn held his breath as Broadway moved menancingly toward Talon.  Both Maggie and Angela stood gawking at their boyfriends and Brooklyn realized it was up to him to put a stop to the madness.
Stepping in between them, Brooklyn placed a hand on each of their shoulders.  "Okay guys, that's enough.  It was an accident and you heard Xanatos, Lexington's going to be fine..."
Broadway glared at him, "How can you say that.  He's your rookery brother and you and I both know that if Talon hadn't interfered he wouldn't have been hurt."
"Broadway it was an accident, Goliath said as much.  Talon is Elisa's brother!  Do you really think that anyone related to her could mean to intentionally cause us pain?"
"He did before."  With that he turned and was gone.
Brooklyn moved to follow but Angela moved forward and shook her head, "I'll go."
In silence he watched her go before turning to the others, especially Talon, "I'm sorry but I'm afraid he's over protective of his friends, chances are he even feels guilty about what happened..."
Talon's hard look stopped his words cold, "I think you should go."
Nodding curtly Brooklyn exited the Labyrinth.  Even though the night was only half over he felt drained.  Taking to the skies he decided to do a little patroling before he returned to the castle.
He didn't get very far when he heard a scream of pain.  Banking left he glided down until he spotted the situation.  Quietly he landed, listening to make sure he wasn't mistaken.
A 'girl' faced a dark clothed man clutching her bloody arm but instead of fear her eyes held a spark of fire.  "Look, if you want to fight, fine but that's the only way you're going to be allowed to touch me again!"
Casually Brooklyn stepped out of the bushes and said, "Boo!"  The guy paled and fainted.  Sighing Brooklyn turned to the 'girl' expecting to see the same results or to see that she had run away while his back was to her.
Instead, no sooner had he turned around then she gave him a one armed hug.  When she back away her face was as red as his skin.  "Thanks.  I probably could have taken him myself but it's nice to have a... red knight come to the rescue once in a while.  What's your name?"
Brooklyn felt caught off guard, "Brooklyn."
She stuck out her hand, "Cinder Jackson."  As they shook hands her brown eyes stared directly into his.
    *Brrrrriiinnnnngggggg*
Breaking his contact with her he ed the cellular phone from his belt.
    "Hello."
"Brooklyn. It's Angela.  Broadway's heading back to Labyrinth and he's even more angry than before!"
"On my way."  Quickly he replaced the phone but before he couldn move he felt a small hand on his arm.
Following the arm's owner he found himself once again looking into those deep brown eyes.  "Let me come with you."
He tried to say no but when his mouth opened, the words that came out had a life of their own.  "Sure, but you'll have to hold onto my back till we get to the top of the building."
When they got to the top he easily lifted her into his arms.  As he jumped off the roof and caught an up draft her good arm circled his neck and for some reason it felt right.
It didn't take long to get to the Labyrinth but when they arrived and he had set Cinder down, Brooklyn came face to face with two very upset friends who were almost at each other's throats but this time he didn't get a chance to react.
"That's enough!"  Everyone froze and looked with surprize at the person who had spoken.  Cinder.
She moved forward with determination and confidence, her 'bloody' sleeve only slightly diminsihing the effect.  Her eyes snapped and burned with a strange inner fire.  "You two want to fight so bad?  Why don't you go into the city and beat up some criminals?"
Broadway growled, "I don't know who you are but stay out of this."
Without warning she had transversed the space of four meters and had lifted him off his feet.  Her eyes glowed, "I said enough."  Then calmly she set him down and stepped back wearily shaking her head, "This isn't going well.  Kaldon?"
A cloudy, white figure appeared beside her, resembling a Gargoyle older than Hudson.  "Yes my child, what's wrong?"
"I'm tired of this.  I tried to do what you asked of me.  I've stopped wars, started wars, killed beings, saved others... now I can't even stop a fight between friends!  What on Earth is this world coming to?  Why does everyone have to create war on one another?"
The Elder, Kaldon, smiled sadly.  "What you really want to tell me is that it's hopeless.  Like being up a creek without a paddle."
Cinder's eyes glowed again, "Never!  I never give up.  Where ther's a will, there's a way!"
Kaldon smiled again and started to disappear, "Then you will find your answer..."
She stood still amoment.  "Fine, then why doesn't someone tell me what they're fighting about?"
Brooklyn found himself answering, "Lex was working on a computer code when Talon tried to help and set off an explosive device.  Lexington was hurt but he'll be okay."
Cinder's eyes widdened.  "That's it!  That's all they're fighting about?"
    Both combatants growled.
She turned at them eyes cold.  "So instead of being with your friend, whose hurt you decided to fight with each other?  I wonder how that makes Lexington feel, course if you had and respect for him you'd be at his side right now."
Both Talon and Broadway blinked at that.  Then in unison they said, "She's right."
Smiling sheepishly they apologized and Cinder walked up to Brooklyn.  "Mind if I come with you to the castle.  I'd king of like to see the guy who cause such a fuss, besides I think I owe you an explaination."
Brooklyn grinned and picked her up.  "No way I'm going to miss that!'
