Tips
1. The human eye has about the same viewing range as a 43.46 mm lens(45
degrees). This is the default
lens size used by 3D Studio Max.
2. Most short-cut Keys can be changed in 3DS Max by utilizing the file, Preferences, Keyboard layout
3. The most obvious actions that cannot be undone are the application
or deletion of a modifier and the
cellapsing of the modifier stack. Be careful and make sure to HOLD
your scene before preforming these
actions, because otherwise they are perminant.
4. Never scale a tape object. Scaling of this object will cause a false reading.
5. To manage scene size and interactive speed you can set detailed objects
to be drawn as boxes by right
clicking on the object and selecting Properties, Display
as boxs.
6. Smoothing should not be confused with the meshsmooth modifier which
actually effects the topology of
an objects surface.
7. Render Fields should be set only when rendering frame by frame to
videotape for smoother animation
and should never be used for rendering stills of flics.
8. Video color check will check to make sure that all of the colors
in your scene are legal for NTSC video.
9. Super Black determines just how dark the darkest
portions of your image become. This setting should only
be used when doing video compositing.
10. Force 2 sided is check when both sides of
each face need to be rendered. Models imported from other
programs may need this turned on to render properly.
11. Force Wireframe renders all geometry with
a simgle pixel line, no matter what material is actually set to be
used.
12. Aquiring a map gizmo cannot be undone. Hold your scene or make a
clone object before you aquire a map
gizmo.
13. When editing an animation in the track view you can make changes
when the animation is playing. This makes
it easy to see the effects of your adjustment values.
14. Use a mix map for brightening or tinting other maps. You will usually
get better more predictable results
than using output controls.
