Virgin JamCast Presents The Smashing Pumpkins from Their World

6/27/00 4:16:00 AM
Source: PR Newswire

Tour - the sacred and profane Via Exclusive Webcast from Los Angeles

Catch the Show and Access Exclusive Downloads Previously Not Released in the US at www.virginjamcast.com

PHOENIX, June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- On July 13, Virgin JamCast(TM) will present an exclusive webcast of The Smashing Pumpkins in concert from the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. The show, taped at the band's West Coast performance on May 23 just hours after Billy Corgan publicly announced the breakup of the group, will be broadcast worldwide at 2:00PM EDT and 10:00PM EDT at www.virginjamcast.com. The July 13 webcast is a preview to a special "Smashing Pumpkins On Demand Weekend" during which fans can view the concert in its entirety at their convenience from July 21 through July 23.

Pumpkin fans in the US and Canada that can't wait until July can go to www.virginjamcast.com today and download two free Smashing Pumpkins songs. The never-before-available songs -- a live version of "The Everlasting Gaze," recorded at the May performance and "Speed Kills," a b-side from the MACHINA / the machines of God recording sessions and not found on the album -- are available for ninety days in North America only and exclusively at www.virginjamcast.com.

Says Billy Corgan, "1994 was the last time we released a video with any live footage. This is a great opportunity for everyone who missed the last US tour to see a high-quality webcast of the band live in concert."

The July 13 ten-camera webcast features such Smashing Pumpkins songs as "Cherub Rock," "1979," "Ava Adore" and "I Am One." Other songs include selections from the new album MACHINA/the machines of God such as "Stand Inside Your Love," "Glass and the Ghost Children" and the current single "I Of The Mourning."

Also beginning July 13 and for the subsequent week thereafter, two additional tracks recorded live at the Los Angeles performance -- "Heavy Metal Machine" and "Blue Skies Bring Tears" -- will be found exclusively at www.virginjamcast.com for commercial download in North America only for a suggested retail price of $1.99 each.

After that seven-day window, the songs will be available for a limited time through any North American retail site that wants to carry the downloads. As in the past, Virgin Records and EMD will work with their retail associates to develop technological solutions for all interested parties to participate in the commercial program because of their impact on the Pumpkins career.

Besides the www.virginjamcast.com site, the event can also be accessed through the new, improved Virgin Megastore Online (at www.virginmega.com), Radio Free Virgin (at www.radiofreevirgin.com), the official Smashing Pumpkins website (www.smashingpumpkins.com), and the official Virgin Records America site (www.virginrecords.com). The four downloadable tracks will be available in the Microsoft Windows Media and Liquid Audio formats. The Smashing Pumpkins webcast will be streamed for free in a non-downloadable format.

Virgin JamCast, a unique partnership between WAVO Corporation (Nasdaq: WAVO) and Virgin Entertainment Group, will be the exclusive cyber-venue for the Smashing Pumpkins webcast. Virgin JamCast is specially designed to take the "click and download" hassle out of digital music delivery with JamCast Direct, an innovative service that automatically sends select CD-quality digital music files directly to customers' hard drives. The promotional Smashing Pumpkins downloads will be included in the JamCast Direct music mix, automatically sending the songs to JamCast subscribers, with a timeout after ninety days.

The Smashing Pumpkins released their latest album, MACHINA/the machines of God (Virgin Records America) on February 29th, 2000. The band just completed the US leg of their world tour "the sacred and profane," which wrapped up in Portland, OR. Prior to this full-scale concert tour, the Pumpkins completed a promotional tour ("Resume the Pose") which featured autograph signings and in-store performances in select markets and several surprise club shows. Later this month, the band will commence a world tour of Japan, Korea, Canada (where they will headline the Summersault Festival) and Europe, with more territories to be announced.
