Sailormoon Pet Peeves

Hello. Welcome to my 4th rant. These are just little things I don't like. None were big enough for their own page. Sit back, relax, and prepare to flame me if you disagree.

Sailor "Scouts"

I can't stand the term. I know DiC wanted to translate "Senshi" so little kids could understand, but why "scouts"? What's wrong with Sailor Soldiers? Scouts are cookie-selling, camping little brats. They have meetings each week and earn merit badges. Our Sailor Senshi save the world from evil, fight for justice, etc. etc. They're totally different. The worst is when people call the Outer Senshi "scouts". Okay, so DiC Scout-ized the Inners. But they didn't cause the same harm to the outers, thank goddess. I have never read the Mixx manga, because frankly, I don't trust their translations anymore than DiC's. I watch Fansubs and read decent manga translations for the Japanese import manga I have. So maybe Mixx calls the outers "Scouts". Even still, it's annoying.

S.O.S.

Gag me with a spork. Save Our Sailors is a group of children trying to get the show translated. While they may appreciate the edited, warped, and watered-down style of BSSM, their methods of getting more English episodes are ridiculous and useless. They edit pictures and make up stories (Prince Uranus?! WTF?!). They're annoying.

Pioneer's Movie Dub(s)

The first one, the R Movie, is out. It's almost as bad as the Dic Dubs of the show. Since they also subtitled them, I won't complain much.

Websites That Don't Keep Their Stories Straight

I admit that having gotten into the series via the DiC hacking and having seen the rest through fansubs, the Pioneer subtitled movies, or episode guides on the net, sometimes it's hard to keep all the Dub information seperate. Espeically since I run a site where I review CDs from both shows, the NA Dub and BSSM. But people, with a little research, you could keep your facts straight! Really! I don't want to hear that Princess Serenity and Prince Darien were in love when the Negaverse attacked. I don't want to read that Ann and Alan attacked Tokyo and Usagi was Sailor Moon once more, only the other scouts didn't remember anything. Please, don't mix terms!

Really Stupid "Sailor X" Names

Sailor Senshi are planets. I can even understand naming yourself after astrological signs (ie. Sailor Gemini), elements (ie. Sailor Fire), etc. But I hate those names like "Sailor Chibi Melon" or "Sailor Ski Bunny". Uh, no. Get over it.

Dubbie Sites That:

Use pictures from Sailor Stars - umm... the dub doesn't go there. You shouldn't either. Especially when you fail to explain who the "Three Lights" are. Come on.
Have "I support Naoko Takeuchi" Banners - if you support her, shouldn't you find out about the original Japanese version? This is the worst when the owner makes it obvious they don't know a thing about the original series.

Incorrect Rominization of the Title

I took Japanese in school. I know this. Trust me. It's not "Se-la muun". It's "Se-ra mu-n." In Japanese, there is no "l" so instead, they use the characters for their "R" because it's pronounced almost the same as our "L". Also, they don't have a "V" so they use "B".

Incorrect Use of the Japanese Language.

For my friends at school who use "baka". Baka means foolish or stupid in Japanese, however it's not harsh. It would be used like, "Biki-chan! Baka desu!" Vic, you're foolish, or that's foolish. Japanese is hard to translate directly since they often omit pronouns like "you" "he" "she" and "it". You have to take it in context with the rest of the converstaion. However, it would *NOT* be used like this: "Baka me!" "Baka you!" "Baka math!" You could say, "Baka yo!" which means "foolish" when you refer to something, but adding an English word after it make you sound stupid. ^_-.
Also, incorrect pronunciation of Japanese words. It's not "Back - uh" it's Bah-kah." It's not "Nay-oh-ko," it's "Nah-oh-ko." Got it? Good.

The Scout Cookies Graphic.

What's wrong with that picture? It calls the "Senshi" scouts, it uses the NA logo twice, and they're way expensive. Can you tell I've been hit up by Girl Scouts lately? Anyhow, it's a joke to mock the term scouts. Yup. Take it and die.
