The Story of Igmo
The Story of Igmo
MY story begins when I was but 163, and had only recently had my débutante ceremony. That was the night when my name would be revealed. In the Silver society, what little there is left of it, from birth until the coming out one has a child-name. My child name was Nicaty. Upon each child’s 162nd birthday, a tremendous ceremony is held, and a new name is given. My new name was Rah’vin, meaning “one with mysterious future.” At this time I was told to forsake all my childhood friends until they had their ceremony, for now I was “an adult” and too old to be interested in their games.
I love my friends. I could not live in that society that disallowed me to be with them. Finally I talked my sister, Equ’ys into leaving with me, striking out on our own, and finding our future. So we struck out on our journey, knowing not what we would find, and having little idea how to survive.
I had only the money that had been given to me recently, as children are not allowed to work. That was quickly spent. My sister, unknown to me previously, was addicted to the Igmonian equivalent of marijuana, Crystal Hydronal. Crystal Hydronal is eaten instead of smoked, and has much stronger effects, but is much more addictive, and a lot only goes a small ways.
I had to find a way to come up with money, and I needed to come up with it rather quickly. I took a job working for a Gray by the name of Cou’ya. Like most Grays, he thought very well of himself, but I put up with it in order to earn the money for my sister. As soon as I had come up with money enough, I gathered my belongings and Equ’ys and we were on our way.
We didn’t stay on our way for long though. Cou’ya had known why I was having to work for him, and turned us in, my sister for the Crystal Hydronal, and myself for being an enabler. We were shipped off to the prison planet, Zhoduy 7, our sentence, life. The Igmo government is very hard on drug users.
While we were there, a Blue named Jay’Raphso decided he was going to form a revolution and leave the planet. That’s when I decided I would make a break for it. When the ships came down, I morphed into a flea and rode on Jay’Raphso’s shoulder, so that I knew I would get a place. Equ’ys got on another, and I never saw her again. The ships were attacked as soon as we got out of the atmosphere of Zhoduy 7, and Jay’Raphso sent ours into the light drive, hoping we would come out close to some planet.
As he was driving I morphed back into my regular form, and asked if I could lend any help. He seemed quite pre-occupied, and so I quickly left him alone. There was a full ship out there, and I was going to have fun exploring it. As I was leaving the main deck of the ship I noticed a Black’s body. Apparently he was having an OOBE at the time, so I decided to sit and wait for him to come back. I’d never met a Black before, although I knew they were hated by most.
That was probably a bad thing to do. From the time he awoke, until now, he has followed me. He has been helpful a few times, but Ta’suth has, over all, been quite a bother. He did, though, introduce me to someone who is now one of my best friends. It was his sister, Lavin. Lavin is a Blue who was imprisoned for voicing views against the government. Her thoughts were not new; she had just been the first in a long time to actually say such things. The Gray’s are used to having their way.
After a few days of exploring the ship and talking with my new friends, Ta’suth and Lavin, we docked on a planet, and quickly took back to the skies. The water planet was inhabited by a race of intelligent crab, who wanted us for dinner. I grew to loathe the taste of crab meat after eating it for weeks.
The next planet we stopped off at was much more hospitable, but still didn’t suit my taste. It was the lizard planet. The lizards that lived there were not like many I’d seen before, they came in many different colors, and had fur on their bodies. They were a primitive race, and believed us to be gods come from the heavens. Our stay at that planet lasted about two weeks, and in that time I made a good friend, of the non-furry lizard type; a dragon.
Her name was Mon’Taño and she was a blue. Seems that most of my friends were to be blue in color from then on. With Mon’Taño’s help we were able to get the ship back into orbit with at least some of our crew left. Most stayed behind to be worshiped as gods and goddesses.
By this time there were only a few of us on the ship, and we had become pretty good friends. The Igmo’s that were left after our two planetfalls were myself and Deirdre, the Silver; Jay’Raphso and Lavin, the Blues; Ta’suth, the Black; Bra’Lez, the Crystal; Trus’me, a Green; Maxell, a Red; and Zigl’ar Trus’me, a Gold. Then we had our dragon friend, Mon’Taño, the blue.
The ship that Jay’Raphso had stolen was a tanker ship, and had limited sleeping space, so there were usually three to a bed. That didn’t sit well with me, so at night I made myself so small that I wouldn’t be noticed, and found another comfortable, out of the way place to rest. The close quarters soon started to affect everyone, and we soon had many fights started just because of old racial hatreds. Greens usually hate Reds, Reds hate the Greens and Silvers, Blues, as well as most others, hate the Blacks, Whites dislike Golds, and Grays don’t like Crystals.
Because of the fact that we had most of the different species on our ship, these hatreds made living together quite hard. We would befriend someone who is our natural ally, and they would befriend one who was our natural enemy. Being a Sliver, I tried to create harmony, and Jay’Raphso tried to help me, but many times we failed. Working together did help us to form a close bond though. It was a bond that would help us out of many tough situations.
Our time traveling from planet to planet gets quite boring in the telling, although we did have some interesting adventures sometimes. I believe I should skip to the part that would be most interesting for you humans: our first encounter with Terra 1, or as you know it, Earth.
We landed quite some time ago, thousands of earth years, actually. It was a time of great closeness to the gods and goddesses, and great religious people. There were many prophets at that time, as well as people with strange names, such as Octavian, Thomas, and Judas. Our old Igmonian bodies were beginning to wear out, and although we could make replacements easily, we felt that using a human guise would be most helpful on this world.
Ah, I have forgotten to tell you about the differences between the Igmonian bodies and human bodies. Here are some basics. Igmos have one more finger one each hand, and toe on each foot. We range from 6 to 11 feet in height, and are usually quite thin, although not what humans would call anorexic looking. Our species name comes from our skin color, although there can be slight differences between the skin of two of the same species. For example, Jay’Raphso is a dark, vivid blue, and Lavin is more of a denim blue. Most Sliver and Gold Igmos have little color variation.
Igmo bodies have body hair, normally kept long on the head and forearms, and short everywhere else. When one of our bodies begins to wear out, we make another one. That is one gift all of our races were given from the beginning. We are not immortal, if our body is quickly destroyed and our soul can not find another home quickly, we die and go to be with the High One. That is our home, but few of us are homesick. All facial features of any Igmo are beautiful by human standards; we can’t help but be. When we make a new body, it usually resembles our old one almost exactly, but sometimes has small variations. If one goes through enough bodies, they may look nothing like how they looked early in life.
Igmos can inhabit the body of other creatures, if the need presents itself. Even in the form of the other creature, some species retain their powers. Silver, White and Green are the only three that don’t, and that is because our skill rely on our body, not our soul or mind.
Now that you know some of the basics about Igmo composition, you can understand better how we were able to move into other bodies. We did not force a soul out of a body it inhabited; we simply took over a body of a dying or dead soul. For most of us, the preferred body was that of a child, or even infant. Since then we have been moving from body to body, place to place. Often we have split up, and joined back together at a later date. We do not plan on going back home.
Now, you may ask what happened to Mon’Taño. She found another dragon living in a cave somewhere on the continent you now call Europe. Purple was this blue dragon’s name. She was a blue that had been born on Earth a few million years ago. A giant meteor had struck the earth killing off most of her kind, which human scientists now call dinosaurs. She was lonely, and half insane when Mon’Taño found her, but they soon became good friends. They now live in a lake in Scotland called Ness. Humans who have seen them have made a big deal of it, but they do not wish to harm anyone, and try to stay out of sight for the most part.
I know of a number of others living on this planet, although they do not know of me. One of these, a Gray, calls herself Lynnell, and she is mated to a Red who calls himself Steve. There is another, who came to Earth with them, but I do not know his name. He was a black.
There are some living on earth that I have kept contact with, such as Fanqwen'ellb Biaeshrob who calls herself Tara, Deirdre, who goes by the name Meaghen, Lavin who has taken the name Nanya, and Jay'Raphaso, who calls himself Jayson. We all have relativly young human bodies, teenage, and are all considered outcasts, but we prefer it that way. Our oddities are not questioned, as many people perfer not being around us. Although we live miles away from eachother, in some cases, we keep in touch through an Igmonian invention we brought to this planet, the internet.
Hmm, that's about all of the interesting information on my life as of now....I shall be putting more up as soon as I think of something.
