While with the X-Men, Remy aka Gambit had been a crucial person to the team. During that time, Gambit had risked himself and put it all on the line for the team on countless occasions. He joined the X-Men in battle countless times against countless foes. Some of these include : the Shadow King, Sabretooth, the Phalanx, the Brood, Mojo, Strife, Magneto, sentinels, Bastion, and Apocalypse to name a few.
Also while with the X-Men, Remy fell in love with fellow team mate Rogue. At first, it seemed to be more of a cat and mouse, you chase me / I'll chase you kind of crush on one another. Neither would really admit to being in love with the other. As time passed however, the two seemed to get more and more serious about one another, and on several occasions they both admitted to loving each other. Unortunately though as their relationship progressed, they ran into a brick wall of sorts. Thinking that the end of the world as they knew it was near, Rogue and Remy shared a kiss, that would eventually leave him in a coma after the incorrect Age of Apocalypse time line was restored to normal, thanks in part to Gambit, who in the AoA time line, was in charge of a renegade band of mutants known as the Externals, that stole a piece of the M' Kraan crystal and brought it back to earth.
Waking up from that coma, Remy realized that when Rogue kissed him, she had absorbed some of his memories, and they had done a world of hurt to her. Confused, she had set off to Seattle to try and find answers to the questions swirling inside her head. When Remy learned of this, he went out after her, in hopes of stopping her and helping her cope with her problem, as well as, ultimately, trying to keep her from learning dark secrets about his past. When the two finally caught up, he offered his help, but she turned away from him, and left him standing alone with the fears of his past haunting him. This would not be the last time she turned her back on him.
