Music and Life
What, you ask, do music and life have to do with each other? Everything, if you're me...or most of the people I know. Singing comes as naturally to me as breathing (Or maybe more so, if you ask my singing techer!) All my life, the soul-stirring sounds of music have thrilled me. When I hear a beautiful peice of music, notes pour out of me, like a natural reaction, like the conversation of angels.I live to sing, and, If I am gettting better...as I have been told I have...then my life will be good.
I don't know if a non-singer couuld ever understand the feeling...when you and the notes are one, you are lifted above yourself, and are better than you ever imagined you could be. Yes..I love music and everything that comes with it...even the rehersals!
Below, I have listed some of my favorite peices of music, etc. My tastes are pretty broad, so you may very well see something you like! Enjoy!
A Few of My Favorites.....
- Phantom of the Opera ,by Andrew Llyod Webber....his Magnum Opus...ALW and Michael Crawford ...sigh...
- Music of the Night...from The Phantom of the Opera. I will play this at my wedding! Possibly one of the most touching, beautiful love songs ever written...yes, your spirits will starrt to soar!
- The City of Angels CD. 'Angel', 'I Greive', 'Uninvited',and 'Iris' are wonderful
- Latin music....I didn't want to, but I got hoooked on it anyways...Ole!
- 'La Boheme' and its modern counterpart, RENT....Both are musical masterpeices, and RENT is the musical for peole who don't like musicals....you will like RENT.
- AC/DC's 'Hell's Bells'....thanks, Mom...you HAD to make me like this song!
- Metallica's 'Enter Sandman'. Contrary to popular belief, I do like Metallica....but I'm not about to paper my walls with Kirk's likeness. This song is cool.
- Jimmy Buffet.....shhhh! This is my little secret...but I have been a fan since I was a toddler...thank my father. And besides...what's not to like about a cheeseburger in Paradise?
- 'Les Miserables'...the musical AND the book. Ok...it is majorly depressing, but God, the music is collasal and so is the story!
- Any song that is sung by these people....Lea Salonga, Philip Quast, Michael Crawford, the band U2, Sarah Brightman, and a lot of other people...who can remember them all?
- 'Jesus Christ, Superstar'. Yet another of my ALW favorites, but this one has a grittier, more youthful exuberance than the Baroque 'Phantom'. 'Gethsemne' and 'Everything's Alright' are my favorites. Though it is not ver batem from the Gospell, I believe that it captures the humanity and divinty that was Jesus Christ. Hey, it strengthened my faith, and that's a good thing.
- 'Notre Dame de Paris'. Another Hugo novel that's been made into a musical. This one I bougt in Paris, and it was worth every penny! Yes, it's all in French, but it's so beautiful that it doesn't matter. Helene Segara is great as the gypsy Esmeralda, but it's Garou who wins my heart as Quasimodo. I'm noticing pattern in the characters I like. Hmmm....
