*Chapter 20*

“So Justin’s okay with everything?” Julia asked in a relieved tone over the phone. “Yeah I explained everything a little bit better and he should be cool with it from now on,” JC replied. Julia smiled, “Good, I hate having him mad at us,” she said, looking down to the history study guide she was working on. “What are you doing tonight?” JC asked. Julia sighed in annoyance, “I have this history study guide to finish before class tomorrow morning,” she replied.

“Forget about the study guide, come to the movies with me,” JC offered. Julia looked around her room cautiously, “But what about Lance? He’ll get suspicious if we go to the movies together,” she said worriedly. “He said he’s gonna be at his office doing paperwork all night, the coast is clear,” he replied happily, “And I never get to take you out anywhere, so let’s go.”

Julia sighed again and looked down to her history book, “Okay, I’ll go,” she replied, growing excited. “Good, I’ll come by and get you at eight,” JC said before hanging up.

************

Julia was actually really excited about her date with JC. He was right, because of the secrecy of their relationship they didn’t get to go out on real dates very often. She smiled to herself when she heard the doorbell ring a few minutes after eight. Her smile got even brighter when she saw JC on the other side, smiling shyly at her. “Hi,” he whispered, handing her a rose from behind his back bashfully. “Aww, Josh, that’s so sweet, thank you,” she gushed, leaning forward and kissing him on the cheek.

She grabbed her purse and smiled to JC when he grabbed her hand and led her to his car. She blushed when he opened her door for her and helped her in, but his gentlemanly ways didn’t really surprise her at all.

It was so strange for the two of them to actually be driving, going somewhere together. Julia had never really realized that they never went anywhere together until they actually were going somewhere together. She tried to remember the last time she’d been in his car and she had to think back to when they were rehearsing for the tour last spring.

She turned her head to watch him as he drove. His left hand held the top of the steering wheel firmly and his right hand rested on the gearshift. The baseball cap on his head shaded his eyes and nose but she could still see his perfectly chiseled jaw line and his lips that were slightly parted.

She sighed softly to herself when she heard him start humming softly to the song on the radio. Her eyebrows furrowed in thought as she tried to think of where she’d heard the song before. A soft smile finally formed on her lips as she remembered the tune. She thought way back to when she was about eleven and she rushed home from school every afternoon to watch her favorite show, The Mickey Mouse Club.

Her eyes closed lightly and she thought of JC sitting on a wooden stool, microphone to his lips, singing his heart out. His appearance was a little different, his hair was longer then, but he still had the same look of passion on his face when he sang. “Now and forever, I will be your man,” he sang so beautifully. She remembered his pictures taped to her bedroom walls and telling her friends he would sing that song to her someday.

She was shaken from her daydream when JC rubbed her shoulder lightly, “Jules, did you fall asleep? We can do this another night if you’re too tired,” he offered in a smooth, soft voice. Her eyes opened quickly and she turned to look into his bright blue eyes, “No, I’m fine, I was just daydreaming, sorry,” she whispered. JC smiled at her and turned back to the road as the stoplight they were at turned green.

Julia placed her small hand over JC’s resting on the gearshift and pulled it up to her lips to kiss if softly then hold it in hers. She smiled to herself as she looked out the window into the early night sky, thinking of the little girl in her that had dreamed of being with JC someday, and of the young woman she was now that was actually living out those dreams.

*****************

JC placed his long arm around Julia’s small waist as he walked her back to her door after the movie. They’d had a really good time at the movie; it was so great for them to be able to go out and hold hands and be happy with each other in public. Of course they had to be cautious of the fans and seeing anyone they knew, but for one night they got to act like a normal couple out doing a normal thing like going to the movies.

They reached the front door to her house and Julia was relieved to see Lance’s car still gone, meaning he was still at his office. “Thank you for tonight, Josh,” Julia said softly. “It was my pleasure, I just loved being with you,” JC said sincerely, holding both her hands in his in front of him. They stood in silence for a minute, just so happy to be in each other’s presence.

“I know a little girl who’s having a birthday in a couple weeks,” JC spoke up after a minute. Julia’s eyebrows raised and played along, “Oh really, who’s that?” she asked in surprise. “Well, I’ve known her since she was pretty young, and she’s grown up to be a very beautiful young lady,” JC said reaching up and brushing a few hairs off her cheek. “Should I be worried about you going after this very beautiful young lady?” Julia asked raising her eyebrows at him again.

JC laughed lightly and leaned his forehead against hers, “It’s you, Jules,” he whispered. She giggled, “I know,” she replied. JC smiled at her cuteness, “Well I promise you that your nineteenth birthday will be your best and most memorable ever,” he said. “Oh really? I’ve had some good birthdays, they’ll be hard to beat.”

JC smiled devilishly, “Oh I think I know of a way to beat them,” he said before winking. Julia’s eyes widened as she suddenly became nervous, “I guess it whatever you have up your sleeve will be good then,” she said. JC looked to his watch quickly, “I’d better get going before Lance gets home,” he said sadly and Julia nodded in reply.

“Thanks again for tonight,” Julia whispered. “No, thank you for tonight, I can’t tell you how much I really needed this,” JC replied in a soft whisper. Julia smiled shyly to him before he leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her lips. “Goodnight, Jules,” he whispered, walking to his car. “Goodnight, Josh,” she whispered back, running her fingers over her lips as she watched him leave.
