Iori's taste in clothing is... Peculiar.
Iori Yagami. The stealer of the most fans. The only new "regular" character of '95. He was confused, like Vega from SFII, for female quite a bit by quite a few crazy people who have no sense(my friend did even after he performed a DM 4 times!) Maybe because in some magazines his name looks like Lori.Iori keeps a low profile. This is the quiet self-kept antagonist of the game. Why is he the antagonist? Well, you know that main character Kyo guy? Iori be the mortal enemy of he. Iori also likes meat(Go Iori!)
Is a lot of Iori's background dealing with Kyo? Indeed! Attack him if you dare! He was reared for the sole purpose of defeating the Kusanagi of his generation(Kyo). The Kusanagi's are always formidable, and so naturally, Iori would be too! He comes from a long line of used-to-be semi-marauder type people bent on domitation a plenty. Now they only care about the end of the Kusanagi. It wasn't until Kyo's dad broke the "tradition" that the Kusanagi's stopped caring about the fued.
Tradition you ask? Ah yes it's back to the whole "young and the restless-esque" Orochi Saga. The Kusanagi's and the Hassheku's were the ones responsible for the well being of the earth when it came to dealing with Orochi. The Hassheku's were power hungary and made a blood-pact with the Orochi to get more powerful, thus breaking the trust bond with dem Kusanagi's. So now their flames are purple which does nothing but remind them of how their ancestors were traitors because they sure got crack for extra power. Thus the Kusanagi's mase the now-Yagami's their mortal enemies and so every generation, it is the tradition that one person of each bloodline must duke it out, which accomplishes absolutely nothing but establishes one of the sides as stronger. So it seems the Kusanagi's, who made the Yagami's their mortal enemies, started this whole thing, and it is in the Yagami blood a want to finish things. Thus a reason for Iori's obsession with Kyo.
Iori is a special breed, in the sense that even though the Yagami's train their kiddies to whoop Kusanagi butt, Iori's training was more vigorous, his hate for Kyo, whom he never even knew until recently, established in him at an even greater amount, AND he carries a direct bond with the Orochi himself to boot(thus explaining the riot of blood). Moreover, his hate causes him to want to exterminate ALL Kusanagi's, at the expense of unfortunate souls in his way during the tournament, at the expense of his own teammates(all of who survive). The drive for his hatred seems to be established in his purple flames for the one time Kyo was not on his mind, his flames were normal colored(normal as it gets coming out of human hands). It all makes sense when I say Red(natural) flame + Blue(Orochi-note Orochi Chris' flames) = purple.
Even though Iori is VERY obsessed with Kyo, he is also one of the few Yagami with an outside life. He's in a band, gots his own base guitar, I believe he lives in a studio apartment or something. I can assure you that, contrary to popular belief, he does NOT live in a big mansion. He could care less about his own well being to that extent. Also, this should have been mentioned in the Kyo section also, the Kusanagi/Yagami fued is not as popular in the KOF world as some might think because neither one goes on about it, and it's not really known in '95. People tend to concentrate more on seasoned rivalries that take place only in the fight world, like the Terry/Andy or Ryo/Kyo mini rivalries.
When playing KOF '97 or '98, some might notice that Iori is not very popular with the other contestants. He's got quite the hate list. He beat up his own partners after the '95 tournament, not many people like ones who do dat. Therefore, Eiji and Billy(the victims) are sworn enemies of his, but he doesn't really give either a second thought('97, '98 intros). He "Killed" Vice and Mature due to riot of blood. They don't like him so much neither. (In '98 there is no real storyline, so they are on his team again, maybe it was the only way they could enter?) Kim don't like bad people, once again, Iori doesn't give him the time of day, we all know about Kyo, and also, Iori is responsible for the entering of the new-face/band team-Good Iori, I owe you. Yes, Iori's band is the reason Yashiro and co. can't get a decent gig. Oh well, all the more hatred for this misunderstood guy(Who has red hair and is japanese. Yes there is a question mark over my head.)
Iori has the power of the moon, (he should show sailor moon how it's done). Naturally rivaling Kyo's sun power like ness. Iori is easily one of the best characters(So i've heard) in '96, he can still throttle in '97(I beat Leona on level five in seven seconds) and I heard he's back to '96 in '98. The only person I can think of that Iori doesn't hate in the King Of Fighters tournaments is Chizuru Kagura(woo woo...)It must be the shoes. Take that into account when selecting him. Or you could use my personalized Iori team(It tends to intimidate people). Don't be fooled by his ability to throw mess at ya. He is not the type who stays on the defensive like I thought he was(and I never knew why people thought he was so good). Take advantage of the fact that his sweep comes out almost instantaneously and abuse the high priority jumping hard kick(D in the Neo-Geo world). His "Asobi wo Owarida" DM snags jumpers. Use only his little uppercut, and occasionally jump back and throw a firewave(Yes firewave, it makes more sense). Just a little general strategy. Oh, and if you beat your opponent real fast, hold down weak punch...
Ever notice how Iori fans usually don't hate Kyo? Iori's fighting style is NOT magatama(sheesh...). Have fun. Remember him whenever you see the moon(Don't want to eh, well tell 'im that to his face!)
Now here-2/25/00: Yagami has a Death Touch. Everyone he cares about dies. His mother eventually died. From the air going around, I assume he didn't like his father, seeing as how he wants to kill Kyo out of hatred, not for the sake of the Yagami's. His girlfriend that he had before '95 ended up dead as well. His sister... was thought to be dead, but that's unconfirmed... especially since the appearence of Ms. X in SNK Gals Fighters. A girl with Red hair slicked forward. It seems like she's in a school outfit, but she's got a crescent moon on the back. Her outfit is also dark purple/black. Why did Iori suddenly jump up to the favorite characters list even though I tried so hard not to jump on the Iori band wagon? Well, too much cool music (Arashi 2 is the best) and then he just looks cool standing next to Ms. X. That did it.
Are you afraid of us? I don't see why.
