“Queen of the Damned”
Info Page

Great news, everyone! As we were all hoping, Warner Bros. has finally gotten around to making an Interview with the Vampire sequel. A number of people have been nice enough to send me info about it, so here’s what I know so far:

* The movie will be titled, “The Queen of the Damned,” after Anne Rice’s third Vampire Chronicles book. Warner Bros. decided against making “The Vampire Lestat,” Rice’s second Vampire Chronicles book, into the sequel because it was less plot driven.

* The storyline will basically be a combination of the two books: Lestat becomes a rockstar, and accidentally wakes up Akasha, the first vampire, with his music. The character Jesse is also being included as a major character, possibly as a love interest for Lestat.

* Members of the band KORN will be providing the music for Lestat’s rock band, “Satan’s Night Out,” with lead vocals provided by Jonathan Davis. The score will be composed by Jonathan Davis and Richard Gibbs.

* Wes Bently, most recently seen in “American Beauty” was to star as Lestat, but since has pulled out. Who will now be playing the role is unknown, but Josh Hartnett of "The Faculty" has been suggested, as has Simon Baker Denny of "LA Confidential". Aaliyah has been suggested for the Akasha role. Liv's Tyler name has also been mentioned, though unconfirmed. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Heath Ledger were rumoured for the Lestat role, but seem to be no longer in the running.

* Michael Rymer, director of “Angel Baby” and “In Too Deep” will direct the picture. Filming is expected to commence in Melbourne, Australia, this August.

* Scott Abbot, who has previously written various television shows, is the screenwriter

* Anne Rice is not associated with the picture. She has, however, vocally discussed her displeasure at the production. She had hoped to regain the rights after 2000, and find another studio.

You will have noticed that I kept my opinion firmly OUT of the previous description. However, I have had various people ask me what I think of the upcoming production, so I have created a separate page for my opinions, which you will find a link for below. If you don’t want to know, don’t read it!
