************ Update - January 2003 ************
Kendra is in grade 3 now and is able to answer all your emails herself! I am turning this site over to her for updates.

************ Update - May 2001 ************
Kendra is getting too old, too fast (precocious puberty) and the cause is being investigated by a paediatrician this month.
Kendra's eye sight has not changed and she still does not need glasses. She has not had any further problems with swallowing and doesn't 'choke' while drinking any longer.
She is a B+ (A's in art and English) student and loves school.
************ Update - August 1999 ************
Kendra had her retinopathy of prematurity check up, before school starts, last week. Her vision is 20/20, she doesn't need glasses and she no longer requires follow up by the eye specialist! Hallelujah!
I checked her medical chart and at 6 months she was diagnosed with stage 3 ROP. Subsequent check ups indicated the ROP was stage II, in zone III.
Kendra also had her 'swallowing' tests done a couple of months ago at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada. The results were that her epiglottus valve, in her throat, is not closing properly when she drinks or eats. There was no 'treatment' other than to thicken her liquids to prevent the liquid passing into her lungs. As Kendra is in good physical health, I was instructed to 'keep an eye' on her for signs of pneumonia or other lung problems.
And lastly, Kendra is developing into a very thoughtful young lady, who is showing much less hyperactivity. We recently moved into a new neighbourhood where there are many new friends for her. She is interacting very well and I have much less of a concern. She still has problems to complete simple tasks (like to brush her teeth!) without losing track of what she was doing in the first place.
Kendra's progress is nothing less than a miracle. We have been extremely blessed by the outcome of many doctor/hospital visits. I thank all the caring people in the medical profession who have helped Kendra along the way. I also send my prayers out to those who are struggling with their children's health concerns.
************ Update - March 1999 ************
Kendra is now five!!! In her own words, shes "all grown up now and can do whatever she wants." (!!)
Kendra's ADHD doctor advised that she is quite a "fidgity" girl, but that she is "smart as a whip". He advised that we should monitor her progress once she starts school in September to see if she "settles down". He advised that many children "mature" once in school and the attention disorder, presently seen, may diminish.
Kendra also underwent the barium swallow test (see below) and the results were that a slight abnormality was seen. She will now be follwed up with at specialist, in April 1999.
************ January 1999 ************
It is now January 1999 and Kendra continues to have some developmental concerns.
She will be five years old in March 1999.
Kendra has become a very hyperactive child (full of joy!), but she appears to have some difficulties relating/socializing in group activities. Kendra has had a few appointments with a child psychologist, who agreed that she should be referred to a doctor who specializes in attention disorders.
She will be undergoing further tests in a few months, but it appears that she may have an attention disorder. She is a bright and energetic girl, but her ability to work continuously at a defined task concerns me. Kendra will be attending school this year and her reports from organized activities up to this point have been poor.
Kendra continues to speak over the "teacher" (Sunday School) and 'ignores' instruction. She is unable to sit still at the table, or in any other situation that requires physical control.
I believe with the right support, Kendra will continue to grow into a wonderful person.
In addition, Kendra appears to have developed a problem with swallowing. She under went a 'barium swallow' test and a slight abnormality in her esophogus was found. It is being follow up at the Hospital for Sick Children this month.
Although there seems to be a 'list' of concerns regarding Kendra's health - we have all been blessed with the wonderful progress she has made.
