Most people don't like some or part of their given name to began with, But when school friends, Social pressures or Fad's set in, People stop using their given name, Or start using nick or middle name as their first names, It's easy enough for Madin names to get lost through First & Second marriages, "it was designed that way." To rid the gals of all their old bow's. I think.

Stories I have heard of old men, Spitt'n & whittli'n, at the general store, bragg'n 'bout a lyi'n to the census taker, Did shock me at first. until i figured out these folks were protecting their privacy, or just being country mean to the city slicker.
So remember as well, Seasoned census takers, probaly took as many shortcuts as possible, they wernt payed much, The travling accomidations wernt the best,
When roads were flooded,
They probaly stoped at the first house on a road, and cought all the gossup, about all the occupants to the end of the road.
Or in good Travling conditions, they cought the one at home that was tending babys and doing the wash, or cooking while the rest were out in the fields. Accuracy could have depended on an older child. that was disabled or sick. or a old feble grand parent, who guessed at what they thought they knew.
Or just went to the post office, general drygoods store, Church and meeting places to accomplish the task of census poll During the "Dog Days of summer".
One story was that the census taker just left their booklet on the counter at the general store for the folks to put in their own information as they came in for supplys. Well just how accrate do you think that census was? With all the Folks that didnt read or write.
The above mentioned modifications sometimes did migrate into legal documents, Marrage certificates land deeds and Federal & County census, this may be the case in several incidents within the ancestorial Perrin(s), I have shown on these pages.

So this page is for the Discussion of these transformations, that researchers are too easily over looking. Information I have gained by email with family members or studying the records mentioned.
