Daniel R. Adkins

Hello,

My name is Dan Adkins. Welcome to my web site.

Once upon a time I wasn't the least bit interested in politics. Since that time, however, I've decided that if all the "good" (moral, ethical) people in society refrain from political office as well as healthy debate, then the only people who will occupy these seats of power will be those of less moral and ethical standing.

I found the following AP story very interesting, especially since it involves the use of government owned property with which to earn political funds. Yes, it's an old topic, but now that some time has passed between the battle that raged in Congress over it, let us reflect on what this White House practice actually signifies:

Rich, famous and pals enjoy Clinton 'hotel'

Connie Cass, Associated Press, 2/26/97

"Key financial donors or fundraisers show up on page after pge, in every category.

"Among the Hollywood elite are director Stephen Spielberg, who gave $200,000 to the Democratic National Committee for the 1996 election, producer David Geffen, who donated $200,000, and Streisand, who gave $60,000."

Personally, I find this very disturbing since, as I mentioned earlier, it involves the use of government owned property for the purpose of making political money for the DNC.

No, politics has nothing to do with my opinion. I simply don't think it's right, even if it were the Republicans who did this. It's simply wrong. What do you think about it? Do you think it's right for any President of the United States to use the White House as a fund raising tool?

If you're in the mind to discuss this issue with me, then please e-mail me at dradkins@about.com. Perhaps I might post your idea if it strikes me as interesting and relivant.
