Paul Information

Ladies and Gentlemen.. Mr Paul McDermott.

All of this information is what I have gathered from media!

On the 13th of May, Paul McDermott was born in a small town in Adelaide. He was a twin to his sister Sharon who is only a few minutes older than him. He is the eldest male of the McDermott Family. With an Irish-Catholic ancestory, Paul grew up in a Marist Brothers College in Canberra (The McDermott family moved there when he was about 3 years) Being "painfully" shy Paul found it hard to make friends... being an outcast and hated his life... at one stage he was wishing that he would die young. Paul loved drawing as a child, once his sister wanted to take drawing of his to school, and was extremely upset when the nun at school ripped them up and said that they were drawn by someone with a dirty mind!

This is where truthful information is hard to finish. Supposedly, Paul and Tim both went to art School and learnt under the teachings of Dexter Ambrose. Mr Ambrose alledgedly brought together the two and they became good friends. Paul performed in another group called the "Gigantic Fly" whilst Tim and two other men played together, one called Richard, the other Robert. One night (remember these could all be lies) Robert fell ill and Paul filled in. They didn't want Robert back.

DAAS performed in cafes but became so notorious that they were kicked out and had to busk. They went out, saying that Joan of arc was a hermaphrodite and set clothes bins on fire, they gradually became a regular guest on the streets and people would come just to see their antics (Who wouldn't!)

Later on they went to the Adelaide ringe, one "Pick of the fringe" there. The same happened at the Edinburgh fringe festival... somewhere along the way Ted Robinson asked the if they wanted to be on a show called "The Big Gig" where they would be guests every week and believe me, it is piss yourself funny!

Now, as the Doug Anthony's fame train was speeding full steam ahead, they travelled the globe. England, Germany, America and Canada etc.and still performing in Australia. They were offered to do a sitcom and did it... a great one at that.. "DAAS Kapital". They released several books, videos, comics and albums! (Check DAAS Merchandise)

After a while, Tim couldn't stand it no longer, he wanted to leave to be with his young family in Australia. DAAS Broke up. They performed their much publicised "Farewell Tour" and left with a mighty big bang!

Paul was on his own. The other Dougs (Tim especially) were offered to do work on television. (Don't forget your toothbrush) Paul wasn't even sure if he wanted to go back into show business.. luckily he did.. during the year he wrote a performance called Mosh. A look into a night club. With groovy tunes and people, Mosh was one cool musical.

Paul also debated in the Melbourne comedy festivals "The Great debate" Then came Good News Week. At first, Ted was hesitant to hire Paul for the job. He was still in a post-punk attitude and it seemed he wouldn't give it up. Paul chopped off his hair and went for the spikey look. (Which is something which doesn't really depress me!)

Now Paul is working on GNW and currently is writing articles in the Australian every second week with Flacco (Paul Livingston) So there you have it.. Paul McDermott!
