All about me

G'day! My name's Karen, and I'm currently in second year Graphic Design at the Queensland College of Art (Griffith University < and we actually have a website now - quite impressive, wouldn't you agree?) Many people ask me what I'll be when I graduate - well here's a shocker: A Graphic Designer! I love going to uni. I've met some amazing people and have learnt a lot about life and about myself as well.

Part time and during holidays I'm a website designer. (I realise that this page is hardly a selling point, feel free to have a look at some of my other pages). I'm currently saving up for a new car (the new Beetle) and other important things. Viva Graphics is a site I've developed with an overview, online portfolio and a bunch of free graphics archives. Stop by if you have time.

I love to travel. I plan to visit Ireland when I finish studying. It seems a shame that I know practically nothing about the country in which I was born in (first hand, I mean). On the topic of ridiculously expensive hobbies, I've been snow skiing in Switzerland and have never been able to forget it. The last time I went there I was able to try those "big foot skis", which are basically about two feet long and have really big feet painted on them. The next time I get a chance at snow (I know I'm ambitious) I'd love to try snowboarding (largely because I could never keep my skis parallel). We'll see.

On the home front, I'm into bushwalking, ice skating, rollerblading and painting (when I can find the time).

Most Memorable Moment

At the end of 1996, I participated in a German / Australian student exchange scheme. I stayed in a little town called Großeelheim which was near Kirchhein, which was near Marburg, which was near Frankfurt (and if you're still lost, find an atlas). There I had the joys of living with a non-english speaking family (apart from my host brother, who didn't believe in speaking to me in English anyway), attending a German school, visiting castle after castle and cathedral after cathedral, developing some amazing friendships, with both Australians, Germans, and other exchange students from other countries including Denmark, Canada, USA and Finland.

This was an experience I could recommend to everyone, and something you can only do when you're young.

Most Embarrassing Moment

Three months ago I was asked to house sit for a week.
I turned up, bags packed, ready to move in - a week early.
Surprisingly enough, they still let me look after their house.
