"So what’s the big deal about kissing then?" he laughed, suddenly perking up.
"I don’t know, but that was nothing like what I’ve read!" I snorted.
"So how many kilojoules did we burn?" Taylor asked, looking amused.
"Isn’t it something like 59 per minute?" I asked, remembering that I read something about it in a magazine. Our laughter was cut short by the front door banging open. There was only one person in this house that let doors bang open and that was Gage.
"Shit! I forgot about Gage!" I cried and raced downstairs. Gage was merely a 3 year old boy that barely knew right from wrong. The front yard was dangerous, dangerous because the road was really busy, busy with trucks that is. That’s why it has always been a rule that no kid in our family or the Hanson’s under the age of 7 could play out the front unattended.
"Come on then!" Taylor exclaimed, knowing that the road was dangerous. The two of us dashed downstairs and out the front door. We saw Gage running towards the road, chasing a little brown puppy.
"GAGE!!" I screamed. Gage looked over his shoulder at me and laughed. He was going through a phase where he thought it was funny to be chased by people. Taylor and I chased after him, he was way too far ahead of us. Then an all too familiar sound filled the air.
"Tay! There’s a truck coming!!" I screamed. Taylor sped up his pace, I knew he was a faster runner than me, but I continued to chase them. I looked up & saw the truck approaching fast, it was speeding and I knew that Tay wasn’t going to make it.
"Gage!!!PLEASE STOP!!" I screamed out, it came out thick and choked, "GAGE!!!!"
Taylor dove as the truck went by, reaching out and his fingers brushed against Gage’s jacket, but it was too late.
