LEO'S HANGOUTS
Taka
-New York Not everyone loves sushi, and not everyone thinks that eating raw fish is safe but Leonardo has been spotted there many times ordering a bowl of miso soup. Taka is a very small restaurant in New York's trendy West Village neighborhood. Once inside, Leonardo has no chance of not being spotted. The entire restaurant is one open room with no hidden booths or out of the way tables. In fact, walking past the window out on the street you can practically see everybody in the resturant. Although Taka's food is delicious, it is certainly not considered by many to be one of the prime sushi restaurant.
Mercer Hotel
Months before the official opening of The Mercer Hotel, Leonardo had already moved in to a penthouse suite. Inside the roo are marbled bathtubs and arched ceilings-a rariety for a New York City hotel room. It's $300 plus per night for a room. So what does Leonardo love about this place? Many reasons:
• it has tight security
• it's a smack dab in the middle of the artsiest part of the city -SoHo-
• well, duh, it comfortable
Asia de Cuba
Ian Scrager's hotels are not hard to spot. All designed with white walls, couches, chairs, and counter tops. Morgans Hotels located on the East Side of Manhattan, is home of one of Leonardo's favorite resturants, Asia De Cuba. Asian immigrants played a large role in the country's cuisine, so this spot is is all about Cuban/Asian creations. Since the portions are so large, Leo shares whatever he orders with whomever is lucky enough to join his table.
Life
This happening club located in the West Village has skyrocketed to fame. This club has seen many reconstructions and name changes, but Life seems to be giving the nightspot the most life yet. The club is divided into many rooms and levels with plenty of nooks and crannies for chilling. Steve Lewis, director of Life, reveals, "When Leo is here, he glides thru the room. He's flirty, accessible, he's cool. He's not a demanding kind of guy."
Barneys New York
The upscale department store Barneys is the only uptown New York spot Leo enjoys. Why does Leo love this place? Because it's newer and has more merchandise. And it's not mobbed by costumers. What's in the store? One of the best selection of men's clothing anywhere. You will find top designers like Giorgio Armani to Versace and tons more.
Moomba
What's hot? Moomba, a very crowded in resturant in Manhattan in the West Village. Leonardo has been seen here lots of times alone, with friends, or with his bodyguard. Doormen are a constant sight at the trendy Moomba before entering the lounge. Dinner reservations are booked in advance unless you are Leonardo DiCaprio. Although packed with people, many celebs like Leo, Boy George and Madonna can escape to private lounges and can grab something from the raw bar. Also, there are entrees you can feast on such as Amish roasted chicken to Chilean see bass or for dessert: The Cookie Jar-freshly baked, warm chocolate chip cookies and brownies, topped with ice cream..mmm
The Opium Den
The Opium Den 1605 1/2 Ivar St. One of the hottest spots in Hollywood, the Opium Den is a regular stop for stars with a zest for the seedy side of club life. The joint has an East Asian flavor and a dance floor, lounge and outdoor patio downstairs. Upstairs, there's a more secluded lounge and private rooms. Located on 1605 1/2 Ivar St.
The House of Blues
Depending on which bands are playing, Leo and his close-knit group of friends have been known to frequent such nightspots as The Whiskey and The House of Blues. The House of Blues is located right across the street from the Mondrian Hotel, so Leo can spend a night in Los Angeles sans car - now that's a rarity in California.
