"Tuff Guy" Joey Bravo

Q1) what are the ups and downs of this sport.?

a: there are so many ups and down in this "sport".the miles and hours spent on the road, the very little if any pay offs, the wear and tear on your body, the back stabbing, the lack of recognition, the haters, oh and the civivlians who THINK they can whoop you cause they think wrestling is all fake. but on the up side, I have made so many friends in the business, and met so many of my heros, and spanked so many rats' butts that I have a life time of memories from it. But the best,,,the fans ... oh hell when you walk thru that curtain,, and you get the cheers or boos from the crowd it is electrifying. especially when they are the loudest during your matches.. and after the show! wow,, the kids wnating autographs,, the women wanting your number or just offering them selves to you!!! man that is a rush!

Q2) what made me get into the business:

a: listen honey,, is this a business or a sport? make up my mind will yaz? i got into this sport to beat people up,, i got into this business, basically cause like most everyone else in this sport, it is a dream of mine.

Q3) do you remember your first match?

a: oh yeah...its a long story about how it all came about,, but it did. I wrestled the guy who got me into the business, it was 130 degrees out, and I was so nervous. I didnt really know how to prepare for a match, so needless to say, after wrestling for what seemed like forever, I walked away from that match knowing that I had a long way to go. But also during that card I met 3 more of my best friends. (well they are my best friends now, another long story), so Yeah,,, I do remember my first match

Q4) how are you feeling physically?

a: like shit. my knees continually hurt,,, I need sleep, and truthfully, I am still old and fat,,,does that about cover it all?

Q5) wat is the best advice you were given in this business?

a: oh no, I have been given so much good advice about this sport that I really do not have time to share it all with you.I could and should write a book,,,hmmm,,,good idea. but bascially I have been given three bits of advice from three differant sources, and i work every match with these three things in mind. Jim White told me ... slow down...and not be so fancy. Jim cornette told me ... to always remember that it is the psychology of a match that keeps the fans interested, not the moves and Dirty Dutch Mantel (my trainer) told me ... to forget everything tat i had been taught and relearn it his way, and the there is a formula to everything, from promos to running a promotion,,, and to tell the truth those formulas have yet to steer me wrong. and the most important peice of advice I fever got,, was it doesnt matter if you win or lose a match as long as you look good doing it, and the fans will tell you how good you looked.

Q6) what has been your favorite match over the years?

A: all of them,, with a few exceptions. but my most memorable ones were my first chain/weedeater match against Hellraiser! man what a blast! any of my matches from when i was in NDW, against Joey Abs, Rick Link, Manny Fernandez, The Hardy Boys, Tully Blanchard,,, I really thought I was a super "tar" back then.

Q7) how many years have you been in the business?

A: 4,, yeah only 4, but I have done things and wrestled places that most people only dream about in this business. for example I am supposed to go to Puerto Rico at the end of this year, I have been contiuosly on tv for the last 2 years, and so on... so it has been a really full 4 years.

Q8) what does the Thugz mean to you?

a: the THUGZ mean that i aint in this alone, I always have someone watching my back as I am watching theirs, I know tat in any instance, I got my thugz behind me! and with the THUGz behind me,, there is nothing we cant or wont do, regardless of how anyone feels about it. There is nothing like the feeling of knowing in your heart you got someone to trust.

Q9) what is your relationship with the other members of the THUGz?

A: that is like asking what is your relationship with your....arm! we are a team, we are friends, and honey Im telling you,,, dont ever doubt that! we're tight!

Q10) what is your favorite type of match?

A: my favorite type of match,, I love them all,, But i would have to say straight technical,,, no holds barred ,,, just let the better man win,,,skill vs. skill... I like testing myself that way, but there are so few people who offer me a challenge in this type of match,, (well, any of the THUGz could match me move for move)

Q11) who was your biggest influence as a kid?

a: Jerry Lawler, Dutch Mantell, Michael Hayes, and Eddie Gilbert

Q12) who is your best friend in the business?

a: who do you think? the THUGz, and Don gazmo

Q13) what are your future plans in the business?

a: more of the same but only meaner, prettier, and eviler...I just want to make a living out of this,,,pay all my bills, etc.. then I will be happy.

Q14) why do you run your mouth so much?

A: I am very opinionated huh? well I run my mouth because no one can shut it...all I want to do is share the knowledge to others that was beat into me,,,alot of the local workers have never left this area, and dont know what its like out there,, I am trying to let them know,, and I will run my mouth and piss people off and insult and downgrade others until finally someone says! "hey that fat ass knows what he is talking about" some have noticed that I aint bullshitting,,, ask Hellraiser when i introduced him to his idol,,Manny Fernandez, ask the folks at NPW when I am the only worker Tommy Rich would talk to, ask The folks at DCW when Buddy Landel came into the locker room and ignored every one until after he had gave me the workers respect hug, and had a chat with me.Ask DCW whose Locker room Jake the Snake hung out in (when he wasnt in his car lol) Ask Jimmy Cornette, ask Ronnie Garvin, hell,, who wants Tully Blanchards or dusty Rhodes or Tracey Smothers or road dogs home number? oh and ask Tracey Smothers or Jimmy Cornette how we got permission to use the Thug name...but now I am bragging. But im a THUG, and can brag all I want, who is going to try to stop me?
