Faith made the fastest get away she could. Kevin had been nice enough to give her a ride to the hotel, but she didn't want him to come in with her. Too much had happened, she knew not to trust anybody. "Fa... I mean, mommy." "It's okay Tarah, where at the hotel now, you can call my Faith. In fact, how about you just call me Faith from now on." "Okay, Fay." "Right." "Now, I go sleepy, you change me?" "Okay, let's get you ready." Faith picked up the half asleep child and took her in a room. She changed her and brought her back out to the couch in the main room. There was a knock on the door. Faith looked up, trying to figure out who it could be. She set down Tarah and walked to the door. She looked through the peep hole and saw Kevin standing there. She cracked the door and looked out in the hall. "Hi." Kevin saw her face peek out. "Yes?" "Um, can I come in?" "I don't know." "I just want to talk, nothing more." Faith shut the door. She turned back at Tarah who was asleep. Kevin assumed that she didn't want to talk. She had just shut the door like that. He turned to go, but the door opened. he turned back and saw Faith. "Come in." She opened the door so he could come in. "Thanks." "Ya. Let me move Tarah and we can sit on the couch." "Okay." Faith picked up Tarah and put her in a bed in the attached room. She came back and sat by Kevin on the couch. She sat far enough away that a person could fit between them. "Do you not like me or something?" "I never said that." It seemed as if Faith had no emotion when she talked. "Ya, but you're sitting over there. Like, way away." "So what." "And you're pretty snotty to me." "Sorry, I just well, people normally never want to get to know me." "I do." "Why?" "Well, you seem nice." "Seem is the key word there." "Are you saying that you're not nice?" "I never said that either." "You have a major attitude problem." Kevin went to playfully hit her shoulder. Faith screamed and ducked from him. "Stay back! Don't touch me!" "Whoa! Sorry, I didn't realize I did anything wrong." "Maybe you should leave." "But..." "Good bye Kevin. It was nice to meet you. Thank you for the ride." She walked to the door. "Well can I see you again?" Kevin couldn't figure out why she was being so rude to him. "If we happen to see each other in the lobby, I'll wave." "Can we talk again?" "Goodbye Kevin." "Bye," Kevin walked out of the room. Faith was surprised that he left with out a fight. But then she felt really bad for being rude to him. What if he really wanted to get to know her, for her? Faith tried to shake off the feeling and sat on the couch. She was only sitting there for a few minutes when there was a knock at the door. She went to open it. Kevin didn't even wait to be invited in before walking in the room. "Listen Faith, I know you don't want to talk to me, but I really want to get to know you and..." "Okay Kevin, you wanna talk let's talk." Kevin and Faith sat on the couch. He was surprised that she wanted to talk. He thought this was a step up. "So, what do you want to know about me?" "Well, were are you from?" "Um, California. Where are you from?" "Kentucky." "Oh, where do you live now?" "Well, I still live in Kentucky." "Cool." "Where do you live now?" "I don't really have a home." Faith put her hand to her mouth. 'Great Fay, tell him everything, why don't you.' "What?" Faith and Kevin ended up talking the rest of the night. Every time Kevin tried to talk about her past, she'd change the topic. "Fay?" Kevin and Faith turned around as a little voice sounded. "Come her Tarah." Tarah ran up to Faith and climbed on her lap. "Tarah, this is Kevin, Kevin, this is Tarah." "Hi Tarah." "Hi." Tarah looked up at Faith. "He nice?" "Yes Tarah, he's very nice." "We like?" "Yes." "Here." Tarah handed the doll to Kevin. He looked at it strangely, then at Faith. Faith nodded and mouthed, give it back. Kevin handed the doll back to Tarah. She took it and climbed into Kevin's lap. "Hi Mr. Kev-Kev." She rocked back and forth. "Hi." "Come on Tarah, let's get you something to eat." Faith picked up Tarah. "Do you wanna come eat with us Kevin?" "Sure." Kevin was glad that she had invited him to eat him to eat with them, another step up. They went down to the restaurant in the lobby. "You eat Fay?" They were getting food from the breakfast buffet the restaurant had. "I'll have a little something." Faith looked over at Kevin. "Are you gonna eat?" "Ya, I'm pretty hungry." They got their food and sat at a table. When Faith sat down, Tarah climbed out of her lap and went to Kevin's. "I sif wiff you?" "Sure." Kevin smiled and picked her up. "You like biscuffs?" "Biscuits?" "Ya, fafs wha I said." "She has a problem with her T's." Faith laughed at the puzzled look on Kevin's face. "Oh." "I hafe no problem wiff my, wiff my, fhose leffers." Tarah stuffed some bread in her mouth. "Don't talk with your mouth full." "Okay, Fay."
