Then and Now

Tips for surviving a week of camp.

(for the first time camper)

1.  Participate in all scheduled activities. – this will keep you busy. Your mind won't be wondering what could I have done instead of this.

2.  Make friends with the cooks. – make no mistake these people are your bread and butter at camp (literally). The camp cooks have the toughest job at camp. They are always in the kitchen cooking meals for about 50 people. They certainly don’t get enough recognition and appreciation for it.

Don't Call Home Unless Absolutely Necessary 3. Limit calls to home (if any). This will make you less homesick. You won't be thinking about home and how you miss your family.

4. Get enough sleep. You must get at least 6 hours of sleep each night (hopefully more) in order to function the next day. Take naps so that you will be rested for the activities.

5. Pranks are fun, but don't let them go too far. Water balloons, cellophaning toilet bowls, shaving cream, and waterguns are all good clean fun. Just make sure no one gets hurt or you do any permanent damage to the camp facilities or anyone’s personal items. If you break it, you must pay for it.

6.  Overall, have a good attitude. Be positive about your camp experience. The more you are enthusiastic about it, the better off you will be.
