TEAM INFORMATION '03

TRY-OUTS/PRACTICE BEGINS:

From Tuesday, July 15th through Friday, July 18th we will practice from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Southeast YMCA on Six-Mile Lane.

From July 21st through August 1st, Monday through Friday, we will practice twice a day.  First in the morning from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on the track at Seneca’s soccer (football) field or on the field hockey field, and in the evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the YMCA.  Morning practice will be primarily, but not exclusively, conditioning (to know what to expect from morning conditioning, go to our CONDITIONING link).  Evening practice is for training and playing with the ball.

Also, the coaches are always happy to stay after practice for an extra twenty minutes or so to help players who want to spend a little more time shooting, dribbling, passing, or simply playing.

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE BEFORE YOU TRY-OUT:

Before you will be allowed to do anything soccer-related, you must have . . .

·         A completed physical examination and parent permission form.  You must use the form provided by the school.  Have the medical history and parent permission sections of the form filled-out, signed, and notarized before going to get your physical.  SENECA WILL OFFER FREE PHYSICALS AT SENECA SOMETIME DURING THE WEEK OF JULY 9th and JULY 15th.  CALL THE SENECA H.S. SPORTS HOTLINE FOR UPDATED INFORMATION ABOUT THIS (SEE PHONE NUMBER BELOW).

·         Insurance: insurance costs $15.00.  If you do not make the team, $10 will be reimbursed.  Cash is fine or you can make out a check to “Seneca High School.”  For additional information as to what this insurance covers, contact Seneca’s athletic director.

WHAT TO BRING TO PRACTICE:

morning practice

·         your own water

·         running shoes

·         cleats

evening practice

·         your own water

·         cleats

·         shin guards

·         a ball (if you have one)

If you’ve never played before and don’t have shin guards, you can buy an inexpensive pair at places like K-Mart or Target and of course at any sports store.  These are necessary for safety reasons.  However, if you do not already have a pair of cleats, I recommend waiting to buy them until you’re sure you’ve made the team.

PLAYING IS A COMMITMENT!:

During the school year, we practice everyday, Monday through Friday, from 3:05 to 5:05 p.m. at the YMCA on Six-Mile Lane (except on game days).  Outside of major catastrophes, you are expected to attend every practice.
