Archived news and information from the world of the new Ginyu Force to you! Read on for all my old updates.
Friday, March 21, 2003: Well, here we all are once
more, ready to march into the third year of this site's existence. I must
confess, I found a couple of things lying around my hard drive that I could have
put up last week for the anniversary, but I'd forgotten about them. We'll get to
those in a moment, though, for as always, our first order of business must be
the new chapter of Volume
Fourteen, called "The Deadly Assassin." This chapter may not be heavy on
action, but it's definitely heavy on setting up for some action down the
road!
As for the things I could have put up last week but forgot about...
They're a pair of Character
Profiles! Click here
to read about Zarbon's Harem from the Search for Pinapo saga, and click here
to read about Pinapo himself. I should have put them up at the conclusion to
that storyline, but it totally slipped my mind. Better several weeks late than
never, though, right? Oh, by the by, all the Character Profiles are now sorted
in alphabetical order for ease of navigation.
Finally, as the new chapter
introduces four more players in the Red Ribbon Reborn saga, I've updated the Villains
Picture to include them. You'll see one beloved character from the original
Red Ribbon saga, one all-new character of my creation, and a pair of villains
from the first Dragonball film, "Curse of the Blood Rubies" (or "The
Legend of Shen Long" as I think its original title goes). How can they exist if
they're from a movie that didn't happen in the real DB timeline? Just figure
that the story from that film did happen, but not in the same way we saw,
and you'll be all good.
There's also one more picture up, of the "Deadly
Assassin" herself, the mysterious Shuri-Ken.
Check back here in the coming weeks for Shuri-Ken Day, on which I'll reveal her
bio and a behind-the-scenes story about how she came to exist. It's bound to
interest someone.
That's it, so be good to your dogs, and I'll have
more next week!
Friday, March 14, 2003: Well, this is it. Or
rather, tomorrow is it, but since I won't be in town to update, this will have
to do. Two years ago tomorrow, I officially opened this site. I had already been
writing the Ginyu stories for about six months before that, and many of the
characters first appeared up to three months before then. Therefore, the
site is now two years old, and several of the main characters are nearly three!
As I've said many times before, it's amazing to me that I've stuck with these
characters for so long. And hopefully I'll be with them even longer. I have one
more big saga planned after the Red Ribbon Reborn, then I'll either finally hang
it up, or maybe keep going a little longer. Either way, I'm around for the
immediate future, and I hope you will be too.
Now that all that celebratory
mush is out of the way, it's time to get down to business. First up, we have the
new chapter of Volume
Fourteen, "Into the Ruins." I just started watching the Murasaki episodes of
Dragonball last night, and this chapter spotlights him... what a strange
coincidence! Anyway, check it out for a good old-fashioned Dragonball
monster thing.
In honor of the big birthday, there's a new Picture
up. It's a birthday Group
Shot of the gang, and it's attached to the Main Page for
all visitors to see.
In addition, as a birthday surprise, I've put a new
page in the Miscellanea
section, called Concept
Art. As you might guess, it features the concept artwork for the characters
back when they first appeared before this site ever came into existence, with
modern images next to them for comparison. Check it out, because I think it's
pretty cool.
That's it, so check out the new stuff, and I'll be back with
more next week. The legend continues!
Friday, March 7, 2003:
As always, the first order of business this week is the new chapter of Volume
Fourteen, "More Androids!" As you saw last week, the Red Ribbon has some
Number Sixteen models in addition to their Number Nineteens, so our Saiyan
heroines could have their work cut out for them.
I've also put up two new Pictures,
since it's been a while. There's a shot of Melonia
and Iresa, since they're prominent figures in the current saga, and one of
General
Violet, who, as you'll be able to tell from the last couple of paragraphs in
the new chapter, will be playing a major role in the Red Ribbon Reborn
storyline.
There's one more thing to mention today, for those who keep track:
Next Saturday, a week from tomorrow, my site turns two years old! I'll save the
speeches for then, but just know that I've got a new picture and a new section
to add to Miscellanea,
so check them out next week. Unfortunately, I won't be bringing you any bonus
chapters of the current saga, because I don't have too many more "in the can,"
so I need to save what I do have while I keep writing.
I finished my Deep
Space Nine Season One DVD set tonight. "In the Hands of the Prophets" was a
pretty cool season finale, though not as exciting as some of the later ones
("The Adversary" and "Call to Arms" come to mind as my favorites), and I can't
believe I have to wait a whole three-and-a-half weeks till season two! Ah,
well... At least I have my Red Ribbon Army Saga DVD set to occupy me for another
week or so.
Friday, February 28, 2003: Happy last day of
February, everyone! In honor of this wonderful event, I've brought you the new
chapter of Volume
Fourteen, which is titled "Purple Unit." Yes, it seems old Murasaki is back,
though as you'll see in the chapter, he's a bit wiser than he was in the old
days. Plus, we get a bit more insight into who's behind this new version of the
Red Ribbon, and there's a bit of good old-fashioned Dragonball humor,
too.
One more face pops up on the Red Ribbon side in this chapter, so I've
added the character to the Villains
Picture. Just like most of the others on the group, this one is a recycled
DB character who I thought had more potential than she was given in the manga
(though she did get more screentime on the TV show).
Speaking of the Red
Ribbon Army, the DVD set of those episodes just came out on Tuesday, and Amazon
has shipped mine, so it should be arriving soon. I have a hunch it's just the
first part of the saga (Muscle Tower and Goku's trip to the Western Capital),
because if the first DVD set is anything to go by, it won't contain a whole lot
of episodes. I imagine they'll split it up into the Muscle Tower segment, the
General Blue segment, and the Taopaipai/Commander Red segment. Though why
they're releasing the first part of the Red Ribbon then going onto Piccolo
Daimao next month, completely skipping the rest of the Red Ribbon as well as the
22nd Tenka'ichi Budokai is anyone's guess.
And speaking of Piccolo... Viz
just cancelled the monthly Dragonball comic right as Goku was about to
fight him!!! They say they'll be releasing it exclusively in graphic novel
format starting later this year. Personally, I have mixed feelings... I like
getting the comic each month, because I'm a comic book reader anyway, but the
graphic novels look much nicer on a bookshelf... but then again, the graphic
novels are much smaller than the comics. The main downside of the graphic novel
only approach is waiting longer between installments... but the plus side is
that there are more chapters per installment, and they'll probably cost less
than getting several issues that compose one volume. Anyway, that's enough
rambling about that.
Finally, I realize I haven't been putting much else up
lately, but I do have pictures waiting to be posted that relate to the new saga;
we just haven't gotten that far yet. I've also put a little something together
for my site's second birthday next month--nothing fancy, but I like it. Anyway,
I don't think you can blame me for not drawing as much... I'm far too busy
watching the first season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, which came out
on DVD this past Tuesday. If your favorite TV show of all time was suddenly
released in a similar fashion, you'd be too busy for much else too.
Oh, one
more thing... Let's all root for the National League Champion San Francisco
Giants as they open Spring Training tomorrow (since today's game was rained
out). Go, Giants!!!
Until next week, keep living that linear existance! (a
DS9 reference)
Friday, February 21, 2003: Well, it's that
time again, friends... time for a new chapter of Volume
Fourteen, called "Oysta Acts." You may recall that last week, a ten-second
countdown to destruction (or countdown to extinction, for you Transformers fans)
had begun. Will Oysta be in time to save the others? You'll have to read and
find out.
The end of this chapter introduces another player on the Red Ribbon
side of this Dragonball hunt, so I've updated the Villains
Picture for you to have a look at. Like Colonel Dark, this character is an
actual Dragonball villain... but the version in the picture was drawn by
yours truly.
Finally, I hope you all saw Daredevil last week. It
wasn't the best translation of a hero to the screen, but it was okay. My main
qualm (besides the costume stuff I ranted about last week) is that Daredevil
seemed more that willing to let the bad guys die... which is completely out of
character for him. Anyway, Colin Ferrell stole the show as Bullseye, so if
there's a sequel, he'd better be in it. Oh, and Michael Clarke Duncan was
outstanding as the Kingpin, too.
Anyway, till next week...
Friday, February 14, 2003: Happy Valentine's Day, everyone.
There's a new Valentine's
Day Picture up on the main page. Last year Kiwi and Koganut did the honors,
this year it's Tato and Mozzarella.
Today is also the first day of Volume
Fourteen, so I've put up two exciting new chapters for you: "The Hunt
Begins" and "Colonel Dark's Gambit." Enjoy!
Also, Daredevil opens
today, so go see it! Hopefully it'll be good, but I have my reservations...
Bullseye isn't even wearing his costume. In fact, at the San Diego Comic Con
this past summer, the director said they were going to use the costume till
Marvel's editor-in-chief said if they did so, he'd look like a tool. They did
screen tests with it, and he did look like a tool... so they changed it!
Am I the only one in the world who wants comic book movie characters to
look like tools?!? I don't want comics to appeal to the mass-market, I want them
to appeal to dorks like me, and Marvel doesn't seem to realize this.
Anyway,
that's the end of that rant. See you next week!
Saturday,
February 8, 2003: I just came on today and fixed up some broken links that
had resulted with the re-posting of several of my images. Also, I made the handy
new buttons at the tops of the pages smaller, since when I looked at the pages
at work (where we have 800x600 resolution), they took up two rows instead of
one. The new buttons still spill over to the second row at that resolution, but
I figure most people have moved past 800x600 now, and they look fine at any
other resolution.
See you later!
Friday, February 7,
2003: I've got only one thing to report this week... the final chapter of Volume
Thirteen, called "A Dragonball Found," is up. Bet you can't guess what our
heroes find in this story! Anyway, I really like this storyline, since it's more
in the vein of classic Dragonball than Dragonball Z, and I like
Dragonball better.
And speaking of Dragonball, I received the
first Dragonball DVD box set, "Tournament," in the mail the other day,
and I've been watching it for the past few days. I've never bought any of the
Dragonball Z TV DVDs, but the DB ones are something I can't resist, since
I love the show so much, and since FUNimation kept the original background music
in the dub. It's also fun to watch the dub while having the translated Japanese
subtitles on; you can see what they changed. Even in this uncut version, they
tone down Master Roshi's perversity very much. I also bought the DVD of
Dragonball Z movie seven the other day, but have yet to watch it.
One
thing I watch every day, though, is Lupin III at midnight on Adult Swim.
If you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it; it's very silly, and
the Interpol inspector, Zenigata, steals every show. His voice actor is just
amazing.
Finally, you may notice some fancy buttons at the top of all the
main pages. I'm trying to spruce the site up a bit, and I decided those would be
helpful for aiding navigation. I've also reduced the quality of most of the
pictures I have up here, and made them smaller, to conserve space on my
Angelfire account. I may put up high-quality versions of new pictures for a few
weeks, then reduce the quality after a certain amount of time so they don't take
up as much space. We'll see.
Anyway, until next week, my friends, be well.
Friday, January 31, 2003: Well, after last week's huge
update, I've only got one thing today, that of course being the new chapter of
Volume
Thirteen, which I have called "The Android's Power." You know what kind of
android it is, so you should probably be able to guess its power on your own...
But let's read and see how our heroines defeat that ability, shall we?
As a
side note, the soundtrack album to the second season of The Big O reached
my doorstep today, and I'm listening to it for the first time right now. It's
hard to tell if it's better or worse than the first soundtrack, but it's
definitely very good. There are lots more wind and string instruments this time
around, giving it a more orchestral feel.
Okay, I'll see you all next week,
so be good until then!
Friday, January 24, 2003: It's that
time again, friends--time for a new and (hopefully) exciting mini-saga! In the
Volume
Thirteen section, you'll find the first two chapters of "Red Ribbon Reborn,"
called "Spring Break, Whooo" and "Red Ribbon's Secret Weapon." Yes, like many
other DBZ fans, I love the Red Ribbon Army! I brought them back once in the DBZ
RPG campaign I used to run, and that series of adventures is actually a sort of
prologue to what's about to happen now. The main characters of this saga are
Melonia, Sharpner, Iresa, Bembu, Oysta, and Iresa's and Sharpner's pal from
Satan City High, Penn. You may want to read up on all these folks in the Bios
section in case you aren't familiar with them.
I've put up two new pictures,
one in the Other Characters section of the next
generation of Saiyan warriors standing at attention, and the other in the
Volume Thirteen area of the
heroes of this saga (and if you don't recognize the orange-haired girl on
the end, don't worry--I'm nineteen chapters into writing this saga, and she
hasn't shown up yet! She was in the DBZ RPG campaign of years past, though she
was but a little girl back then).
Also, I'm going to be slowly revealing an
image of the main Red Ribbon villains as they appear, so for now, here's the
first part of that picture, depicting the villain of the first two parts of
the adventure (and yes, he's an actual character, from the actual manga, scanned
and colorized by me. Except for some touch-ups such as giving him a lower body
that was absent from the panel he'd been in, credit for this guy goes to Akira
Toriyama. Everyone else in the picture is by me, though--Even if some are based
on Toriyama characters, as you'll see later). The other shadows will be lifted
as the characters behind them appear.
And, as if this update weren't long
enough already, here's two more bits of housecleaning business: I've eliminated
the "links" section, because honestly, I'm sure you know your favorite websites,
and there was nothing new or interesting there for you to see. Also, the
Forgotten Z-Fighters have branched out. To free up some space on my shrinking
Angelfire account, I've given them their own website using my little-known Yahoo
Geocities account. It's still basically the same material that was here, though
it's been spruced up a bit, and there are a few exclusive new pictures of the
gang available only there. So please, check out my newest website, The Forgotten
Z-Fighters!
And that's all for this week, though really it's quite a bit
of stuff when you get down to it. I hope you like the beginning of the new saga,
and I'll be back next week with more!
Saturday, January 18,
2003: I had no time to get to a computer yesterday, so here's this week's
update: The new chapter of Volume
Thirteen, the final chapter of The Search for Pinapo, "A Third Form!" It
seems that Koganut has found a new level within her that none of her fellows
have been able to attain! Let's see what she does with this power, eh?
I'm
going to try and get on tomorrow and add a picture or two before next week's big
debut of the next mini-saga, spotlighting Melonia and her friends on Earth. See
you then!
Friday, January 10, 2003: A new week means a new
chapter, so I mustn't disappoint you, right? Here's the new installment of Volume
Thirteen, which I have named "Koganut's Escape!" After Meebor and Noklok's
disappointing fate last week, will Koganut have better luck??
Also, there are
two new pictures
up, but you mustn't look at them till after you read the chapter, or
it'll spoil the surprise! They're in the Other
Characters and Volume
Thirteen areas. I don't want to give it away, so just click here
and here
to see them.
That's all this time around, but as always, there'll be more
next week!
Friday, January 3, 2003: Happy New Year to
everyone! I hope you all saw Nappa
and Asparaga's new daughter Honeydew as the New Year's Baby on the main
page, and I hope that no one made any resolutions they don't think they can keep
(like I did).
As 2003 opens up, it brings with it new possibilities, new
chances, new hopes, and a new chapter of Volume
Thirteen, titled "Battle in the Village M'Bara." Now that Alvino knows
Meebor and Noklok are still out there somewhere, he's sent Cheri and Bananna to
take 'em down! Will they succeed?
Also, I've added a few new random pictures.
There's a shot of Bembu
and Oysta in their typical Earth clothes (they'll be main characters in the
next storyline, so I'm letting you warm up to them now. Also, remember that
Bembu has the hair spike and Oysta has the baseball cap--despite how the picture
makes it look), and there's a new one of Asparaga,
just to let you all know she's regained her figure after her pregnancy (and for
those who have no idea where this second child came from, you should go back and
read "Tato's Adventure." You may recall that at the end, Asparaga announced
there was a little bundle of joy on the way. As "The Search For Pinapo" takes
place nearly a year later, the baby must have been born by now, right?
Right.).
Anyway, should auld aquaintance be forgot, and all that. See you
next week as we delve further into 2003... and into the Search for
Pinapo.
Friday, December 27, 2002: A belated Merry
Christmas to all! This week, in honor of the holiday, I'm gifting you with the
first three chapters of Volume
Thirteen, "Family Reunion," "Interrogation," and "Plans and Schemes." I hope
you like 'em all, and I think I'll try to get back on this weekend with some
pictures or something. If not, I'll see you in 2003!
Friday,
December 20, 2002: Well, first off this week we have the newest chapter of
Volume
Twelve, titled "The Return of Alvino." Yes, everyone's favorite recurring
villain and former friend of Coliflur is back for his third out of the past four
storylines, so you know something cool's gonna happen!
After you're done with
that, you can look at the two new pictures
I've put up. First is an image of the Chieftain
and High Priestess of the village Noklok and Meebor have found. After that
I've put up a new picture of Coliflur working
out in the Planet Skwash gravity chamber. It has nothing to do with the
Search for Pinapo... but it's just been so long since I've graced the site with
a new image of her that I felt I should put it up.
Finally, I've updated the
Main Page
with another Christmas-themed
image, so have a look at that too.
Next week I'll have my Christmas
present for you--nothing fancy (unless I come up with an idea), just
three chapters of Volume Twelve. Also, I'm currently working on the next
storyline--It's one more mini-saga before we move into the grandest, most
cosmic-scaled and character-laden Ginyu saga of all. But that's in the future,
because after the Search for Pinapo ends, we have to get through an adventure of
Melonia and her friends on Earth, searching for Dragonballs. I'm really enjoying
writing this one, so I hope you like it when it finally shows up here.
See
you next week, gang!
