Powers: Spanóch isn’t much of a warrior (she can’t even fly, and can barely project energy blasts), but she is a brilliant scientist. She has no special combat techniques, and balks at the thought of even fighting. It’s only her inborn Saiyan talent that lets her do battle when she absolutely must.
Background: In the days of old Planet Vegeta, the Been Team was the best of the best. A group of elite warriors, hand-picked by the king himself, they took on the missions that other Saiyans trembled at the thought of attempting. The Beens were instrumental in the overthrowing of the Truffles and the conquering of Planet Vegeta. The king was so pleased with their service, that he chose them for a very special experiment. Following the defeat of the Truffles, a young Saiyan named Shroom happened upon a possible way to create artificial Super Saiyans. Using Truffle technology, she was able to create an artificial Saiyan power ball and slowly, over the course of many years, give certain Saiyans highly concentrated doses of Brute Waves. The Been Team members were chosen as the subjects of this experiment.
In order to give Shroom the privacy she’d need, the king allowed her to voyage out into the galaxy with a group of Saiyan explorers led by a warrior named Hozrados. However, this expedition didn’t go as planned, and Hozrados’s ship crashed on an uncharted planet far from Planet Vegeta. While the Saiyans with him adjusted to life there and began turning their backs on their warrior heritage, Shroom kept up her hard work as the guardian of the Been Team. After some years she mated and had a child, a girl named Spanóch. As Spanóch got older, Shroom taught her daughter the ways of science -- and informed her of a secret. Shroom herself was the daughter of a Truffle named Stool and his Saiyan mistress. This, therefore, made Shroom half-Truffle, and Spanóch Ľ Truffle. Shroom felt that science thusly as much a part of Spanóch’s heritage as warfare, and made sure her daughter knew it. Eventually, Shroom revealed the Been Team to her daughter, shortly before passing away.
From that day forth, Spanóch continued to guard the Been Team until the computers at last said they were ready to be released. Once she set them free, the Beens turned on the now-peace-loving Saiyans, and it took the might of the new Ginyu Force and their allies to stand against them. In the ensuing conflict, most of the Beens were killed, with the exception of Frihala, their junior member, who reformed and joined the Ginyus. Spanóch ecaped capture and is still at large, fuming at the Ginyu Force for destroying the life’s work of herself and her mother. Though the Beens are gone, their caretaker lives on, and she may yet prove to be a thorn in the side of the Ginyu Force.
