Scott County (3-3) vs. Bryan Station (4-1)  October 1, 1999

Everyone can give you a pet theory on defending option football.  Unfortunately when the option attack you are defending happens to be John Nochta's Bryan Station Defenders, it's easier said than done.  Bryan Station has tremendous speed at the skill positions and a sleight-of-hand magician J.T. Haskins at the throttle of their high octane offense.  They ran their offense to perfection tonight to roll over  Scott County 56-14.

Scott County needed to control the tempo to have any chance to win.  Unfortunately they turned the ball over three times in the first half, which led to three Bryan Station scores.  Bryan Station took a 35-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.  Bryan Station rolled up 589 total yards for the night with nine plays over 20 yards.  Combine that with an opportunistic defense and it makes for a solid football team.

There were stars galore in tonight's contest.  Eric Shelton, the 6-3 235 pound junior tailback and a rare combination of speed and power, led the way with 204 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries.  J.T. Haskins lugged the pigskin 13 times for 128 yards and a score, and hit his speedy brother Robert with a 45 yard scoring strike. Greg Shiddell, a fullback with game-breaking speed, ran four times for 67 yards and two touchdowns.  Bryan Station is starting to peak at the right time and football fans are starting to drool at the anticipation of the Bryan Station - Henry Clay match-up later this month.
