Paul L. Dunbar (4-4) vs. Lafayette (2-6) October 22, 1999

Lafayette was unable to withstand the record-setting performance by Dunbar Junior quarterback Chip FranklinFranklin set a school record with six touchdown passes in a game and totaled 27 for the season which ties him with former Dunbar standout Ben Meighan. Franklin completed 21 passes of 33 attempts for 314 yards.

Dunbar raced to a 28-0 lead early before Lafayette closed the gap with two second quarter touchdown runs by Freshman running back Elrazor Sharpe and Senior Bryan Harris to cut the lead to 28-14 at halftime.  Dunbar recaptured the momentum by recovering a short kick to begin the second half.  This led to a Franklin to Berry touchdown pass and effectively killed any chance for a Lafayette comeback.

Lafayette, who got five touchdown passes from Jason Rothermund against Madison Central last week, was unable to mount much offense through the air this week.  Lafayette was effective on the ground with with 256 yards but at least on this night Dunbar had too many weapons, especially with Franklin  and his talented fleet of receivers.   Leon Mack has now caught 28 passes with 15 of them ending up in the endzone.
