Madison Central (5-2) vs. Lafayette (2-5) October 15, 1999

Madison Central raced to a 29-0 lead early in the second quarter and used this early momentum to record a 61-33 victory.  Madison Central led at halftime 38-7 and the teams played evenly in the second half.

Madison Central's senior QB Ryan Jones, completed 22 of 35 passes for 369 yards and 5 touchdown passes.  Blake Reichenbach, a rangy 6-4 wide receiver, caught 8 of these passes for 124 yards, Brandon Alexander caught 3 balls for 72 yards and two scores and Brad Thomas hauled in 5 passes for 69 yards and one touchdown.  The Indians also utilized an effective ground game led by Joey Duff and Tee Parks.

Lafayette, on the other hand, never got anything going on the ground.   Junior QB Mark Rothermund joined the aerial circus with 15 of 24 completions for 363 yards and 5 touchdown passes.  Anthony Slaughter hauled in 8 passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns.  Lafayette has a bevy of fleet wide receivers and on this night Rothermund dialed long distance scoring strikes of 60, 66, and 86 yards to Pinkston, Sharpe and Slaughter respectively.   Lafayette had a nice goal line stand late in the game resulting in a 99 yard touchdown drive; the last 86 on a Rothermund to Slaughter scoring strike.

Harrodsburg  28    Danville   22
Harrodsburg could have rolled over and conceded the season after two earlier blowout losses to Lexington Catholic and Boyle County but they have rebounded nicely to improve to 7-2.   Keith Dunn scored three touchdowns for Harrodsburg and Patrick Bugg threw for 174 yards on 12 of 19 completions.  Earlier this season, coach Don Smith switched incumbent QB Dan Hopewell to the slot position and moved Bugg to QB.  This change appears to have kick-started Harrodsburg and they needed the whole package tonight to subdue a stubborn Danville squad.
