Fern Creek (8-3) vs. Bryan Station (10-1)  November 12, 1999

No. 8 Fern Creek (8-3) comes to town to challenge No. 5 Bryan Station (10-1).  Russ Gibson's Fern Creek squad is led by TB Jeremy Davis who has rushed for 760 yards, and the arm of QB Wayne Embry who has passed for 1,112 yards.  WR Armando Ruiz has been his favorite target with 695 yards on 44 receptions.

Bryan Station is led by its prolific backfield of QB J.T. Haskins, TB Eric Shelton, and FB Greg Shiddell who have totaled almost 3,000 rushing yards.  Their receivers Robert Haskins, Marquis Johnson, and James Clayborne also have the speed and ability to make you pay on defense.

The story of this game could be summed up in one word - Shelton, as in Eric Shelton.  Bryan Station's super Junior tailback, a 6-3 235 pound powerhouse with sprinter speed, carried the ball 22 times for 315 yards and four scores to lead the Defenders to a 49-14 win.  Fern Creek made several costly mistakes which kept them from ever mounting a serious threat to make the game close.

Shelton probably had the play of the game in the second quarter.  Bryan Station had stopped Fern Creek deep in Defender territory and three plays later Shelton broke several tackles and rambled 79 yards to the Fern Creek 9 yard line.  He subsequently scored on a five yard run to cap a 97 yard drive to make the score 27-0 at halftime.  He also added an 85 yard scoring run in the final period.

Fern Creek was led by their very talented receiver Armando Ruiz, who caught six passes for 100 yards.  John Nochta's Bryan Station squad will now advance to play Louisville Trinity in Louisville.
