DeSales defense continues to dominate as they defeated Newport Central Catholic 26-0 for their forth shutout in six games. Coach Harold Davis’ DeSales Colts recorded 19 first downs and 387 yards of total offense. The Colts were penalized three times for 25 yards and lost three fumbles. Coach Dan Wagner’s Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds recorded six first downs and 50 yards of total offense. The Thoroughbreds were penalized five times for 43 yards and had three passes intercepted.
Austin Johnson led DeSales’ ground game with 83 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Bryant Pirtle carried the ball seven times for 63 yards. Frankie Tharp added 63 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Austin Tharp carried the ball 11 times for 61 yards. Austin Johnson completed seven of 11 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown. Austin Craig caught three passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Smith led the defense with seven solo and one assisted tackles with 2.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 10 yards. Bryant Pirtle added four solo and one assisted tackles with 2.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 20 yards. Adam Nord recorded three solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in an eight yard loss. Nord also intercepted three passes with total return yardage of 68 yards.
Jacob Smith led Newport Central Catholic’s ground game with 13 yards on 16 carries. Pat Henschen completed 12 of 26 passes for 71 yards with three interceptions. Brandon Gray caught four passes for 21 yards. Nate Enslen added three receptions for 15 yards. Kobe Tallon led the defense with nine solo and four assisted tackles. Brandon Gray added seven solo and two assisted tackles.
