Trinity (12-1) vs. Henry Clay (12-1) November 23, 2006
Coach Bob Beatty's Trinity Shamrocks lost their first game of the season 23-21 to Montgomery Bell (TN) but have notched 12 wins in a row. They have met and defeated Henry Clay five straight times with the average victory margin being 23.6 ppg. Trinity has averaged 41.2 ppg this season. QB Nick Petrino has led the offense this year with 2508 yards and 32 touchdowns. His favorite targets include Nathan Dutton, Alex Dutton, Kyle Flynn, and Nick Melillo. RB Tim Phillips has gained 1029 yards and 19 TDs on the ground.
Coach Sam Simpson's Henry Clay Blue Devils should present a formidable foe for the Shamrocks as their offense has averaged 40.1 ppg this season. QB Ryan Phillippi has led the offense with 2374 yards and 30 TDs through the air. Clark Jeter has led the receiving corps with 71 receptions for 1046 yards and has reached the endzone 17 times. Phillippi has other game breaking receivers at his disposal including Aaron Boyd and Chase Minnifield. Dontey Gay has led the ground game scoring 10 touchdowns this season.
Trinity QB Nick Petrino ran for three touchdowns and threw for three touchdowns to lead the Shamrocks to a 56-35 victory over Henry Clay. Trinity raced out to a 28-0 first quarter lead but Henry Clay fought back and managed to cut the deficit to 14 points on four separate occasions. The Shamrocks led 49-35 after three quarters and scored an insurance TD in the fourth quarter.
Trinity recorded 26 first downs and 549 yards of total offense. The Shamrocks had one pass intercepted, and were penalized three times for 30 yards. Henry Clay had 12 first downs and 274 yards of total offense. The Blue Devils had one pass intercepted and were penalized nine times for 55 yards.
The Trinity ground game was led by Nick Petrino, who carried the ball 18 times for 164 yards with scoring runs of 1, 64, and 13 yards. Tim Phillips added 117 yards and two TDs on 18 carries. Petrino completed 17 of 24 passes for 257 yards with three TDs and one interception. Alex Dutton had eight receptions for 99 yards and a TD. Nathan Dutton added three receptions for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Kyle Flynn also had three receptions for 46 yards. Eric Brady led the Shamrock defense with five solo and one assisted tackles.
Chase Minnifield and Dontey Gay led the Henry Clay ground game as each carried the ball eight times for 35 yards. Ryan Phillippi completed seven of 16 passes for 108 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Minnifield completed five of 10 passes for 78 yards with a touchdown. Aaron Boyd caught five passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. Clark Jeter added three receptions for 43 yards and a score. Chase Minnifield also caught three passes for 36 yards and a TD. Brendan Kelly led the Blue Devil defense with 12 solo and one assisted tackles. Stephon Burton added five solo and five assisted tackles and Grant Devinney recorded four solo and five assisted tackles.
