Tates Creek (3-0) vs. Nelson County (1-2) September 8, 2006

Tates Creek has roared out of the gate with three consecutive victories.  More importantly, Coach Mark Willoughby's Tates Creek squad avenged three convincing defeats from a year ago in the process.  Tates Creek's punishing ground attack has been led by Jr. Ty Sparks who has gained more than 500 yards in the three victories.  The defense has been anchored by Robert Knowles and Caleb Barnes.

Nelson County, under new coach Bart Bruner, is 1-2 after their first three games.  The Cardinals defeated Bullitt East but have lost their last two games.

Nelson County led 7-6 at halftime but Tates Creek rallied to notch their fourth consecutive victory 26-13.  The Commodores took the lead 12-7 with 1:32 remaining in the third quarter on a 35 yard run by Trumain Duvall.  They added two insurance TDs in the fourth quarter on TD runs of 31 and 60 yards by Ty Sparks.

Tates Creek had 13 first downs and 297 yards of total offense.  Nelson County recorded 15 first downs and 295 yards of total offense.  The Commodores lost a fumble, had a pass intercepted, and were penalized only five times for 35 yards.  The Cardinals fumbled four times but only lost one of them.  They were penalized five times for 45 yards,

Ty Sparks led the Tates Creek ground game with 222 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries.  Trumain Duvall added 41 yards and a TD on five carries.  Hayden Cardiff completed two of seven passes for 23 yards with an interception.  Eric Gwinn led the Commodore defense with seven solo tackles.  Derrick Brown added five solo and two assisted tackles.  Robert Knowles recorded four solo and three assisted tackles.

Devin Boone led Nelson County's ground game with 80 yards on 17 carries.  Jordan Keene added 71 yards including a 53 yard TD run on 13 carries.  De. Patterson also carried the ball 13 times for 52 yards.  Keene completed six of 15 passes for 85 yards and a TD.  Cam Downs caught three passes for 44 yards.  Brand. Williams led the Cardinal defense with six solo and four assisted tackles.  Tony Bartley added five solo, four assisted tackles, and intercepted a pass.
