Lafayette (8-0) vs. Henry Clay (9-0) October 20, 2006

Coach Mike Harmon's Lafayette Generals have averaged 32 ppg this season and QB Logan Bunch has completed 116 of 190 passes for 1814 yards and 20 touchdowns.  Chris Tune has caught 39 passes for 621 yards and seven touchdowns.  The Generals ground game has been led by Corey Layman with 516 yards. 

Coach Sam Simpson's Henry Clay Blue Devils have averaged 42 ppg this season.  QB Ryan Phillippi has completed 133 of 191 passes for 1867 yards and 22 touchdowns.  Clark Jeter has caught 54 passes for 888 yards and 15 TDs.  Dontey Gay has led the ground game with 643 yards and six touchdowns.

Henry Clay took an early 7-0 lead but Lafayette responded with 25 straight points in a 25-13 victory.  Henry Clay could never get on track as they were guilty of five turnovers and were penalized 11 times for 89 yards.  Lafayette turned in a key defensive stand late in the second quarter.  Lafayette held a 12-7 lead but Henry Clay had a first and goal from the Lafayette 4.  Three plays later the Blue Devils were fourth-and-goal from the one, but Chase Minnifield was stopped short by Tyler Stephenson.

Lafayette recorded 17 first downs and 335 yards of total offense.  The Generals had a pass intercepted, lost two fumbles, and were penalized nine times for 55 yards.  Henry Clay had 14 first downs and 313 yards of total offense.  The The Blue Devils had two passes intercepted, lost three fumbles, and were penalized 11 times for 89 yards. 

Tyler Stephenson led the Lafayette ground game with 75 yards and a TD on 12 carries.  Corey Layman carried the ball 22 times for 52 yards and a touchdown.  Logan Bunch completed 16 of 24 passes for 201 yards and with two touchdowns and one interception.  Chris Tune caught four passes for 67 yards and a TD.  Tommy Gifford added three passes for 63 yards and a touchdown.  Trey Shaftner, Matt Green, and Tyler Stephenson led the Lafayette defense with four solo and one assisted tackles each.  Eric Shaw Jr. added two solo and two assisted tackles.  Shaw also added a pass interception and a fumble recovery.

Ryan Phillippi led the Henry Clay ground attack with 127 yards on 11 carries.  Dontey Gay carried the ball 12 times for 62 yards.  Phillippi completed 12 of 19 passes for 133 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.  Dontey Gay had four receptions for 31 yards and Bill French caught two passes for 69 yards with a touchdown.  Grant Devinney led the Blue Devil defense with 10 solo and six assisted tackles.  Devinney had 2.5 tackles for losses totalling seven yards.  Stephon Burton added eight solo and two assisted tackles.
